RICHMOND, VA. – For the last time this season, the University of Delaware women's basketball redshirt senior forward Ty Battle was named the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) Player of the Week, announced by league officials Monday afternoon. This is Battle's second time being named the top player this season and her third in her career.
In Delaware's 1-1 week, Battle averaged 15.0 points, 18.5 rebounds, 2.0 assists and 1.5 steals per contest while shooting 55 percent (11-of-20) from the field and 100 percent (8-of-8) from the free throw line. The Plainfield, Ill. native put together a memorable career evening against Towson (Mar. 3). Battle finished with 18 points (8-of-15 FG, 2-of-2 FT) and a career-best 24 rebounds (10 offensive) to lead the Blue Hens to an 85-71 over the Tigers. Battle also added three steals and two assists to her stat line.
Battle closed out the final game of the regular season against James Madison (Mar. 5) with a 12-point and 13-rebound performance to post her career-best 20th double-double on the season in the 78-62 road setback. She also had two assists to help UD secure the No. 2 seed in the upcoming conference tournament.
On the season, Battle is averaging 13.5 points, 11.4 rebounds and 1.5 steals per game while shooting 50 percent (144-of-288) from the field and 71.7 percent (86-of-120) from the charity stripe. She lead the conference in double-doubles, rebounds (319), rebounds per game, offensive rebounds (131) and offensive rebounds per game (4.7) while ranking among the league leaders in defensive rebounds (2nd, 188), defensive rebounds per game (2nd, 6.7), field goal percentage (3rd), blocked shots per game (t-6th, 0.8), free throw percentage (8th), steals per game (9th). Among the NCAA Divison I statistical leaders, Battle ranks third in offensive rebounds per game, seventh in double-doubles, 12th in rebounds per game and 15th in rebounds.
