Rowing Competes at Knecht Cup Regatta

CHERRY HILL, N.J. – The University of Delaware rowing team took to the water for a two-day race at the Knecht Cup Regatta Apr. 9-10 on Cooper River in Cherry Hill, N.J.
"The team went hard this weekend, it was very competitive racing," said head coach Kevin Gruber. "We'll continue working to get faster before the Mason Invite."
The Varsity Fours team (c-Tierney -Ellis, 4-Lydia Greenwood, 3-Bridget Bergan, 2-Maddy Singh and 1-Maya Ferrer) opened the day one in heat one by finishing the race in 8:15.65 to place second. They ended the two-day meet by capturing second place in the finals with a time 8:14.45. The Second Varsity Fours boat A consisted of c-Claire Higgins-Hart, 4-Alexis O'Keefe, 3-Olivia Hollingsworth, 2-Blair Kennedy and 1- Meredith Blowman and they captured third place with a time of 7:57.00 in heat one and fourth place in the final (7:58.69). In heat two, the Second Varsity Fours boat B lineup of c-Olivia Kelly-Quigley, 4-Elena Sherman, 3-Felicia Marcozzi, 2-Abigal Spangler and 1-Natalija Penev earned fourth place with a time of 8:35.93.
Kicking off the Varsity Eights race was the lineup of c-Amanada Schlosser, 8-Cornelia Meiss, 7-Julia Rothstein, 6-Jessica Dobson, 5-Hannah Walsh, 4-Madeline Curran, 3-Sloane Matthews, 2-Delaney Denegar and 1-Hannah Towhey, which took third place with a time of 6:49.66 and finished in second in the petite final (6:55.17). The Second Varsity Eights boat of c-Hannah Kirk, 8-Hanaa Abdallah, 7-Alli Burns, 6-Alexia Skor, 5-McKenna Twitchell, 4-Ava Norton, 3-Morgan Kline-Hill, 2-Sterling North and 1-Sophia Talley finished in fifth place (7:13.97) on Saturday and won the petite final with a time of 7:12.23).
The Novice Eights boat won the event Saturday to advance with a time of 7:52.70 and then placed fifth in the finals (8:07.90). The lineup consisted of c-Julia Malich, 8-Elizabeth Fowler, 7-Mariah Noll, 6-Sara Girardi, 5-Madeline Climie, 4-Gabriella Gherardi, 3-Makana Steinmetz, 2-Raquel Levit and 1-Margo Harlan.
