HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. – Delaware scored four runs in the top of the sixth and held off a pair of Hofstra rallies to defeat the Pride, 5-4, Saturday afternoon at University Field to even the weekend series.

Hofstra opened the scoring in the bottom of the first on an RBI double by Kevin Bruggeman, while Brian Morrell added a solo homer in the third to make it a 2-0 game.

JJ Freeman walked and eventually scored on a groundout by Jake Dunion to put the Blue Hens on the board in the top of the fourth, before UD plated four runs in the sixth to take the lead for good.

Freeman and Joseph Carpenter led off the frame with back to back home runs, and the Blue Hens then quickly loaded the bases on a Dunion single followed by walks to Aidan Kane and Joey Loynd. Nick Vera and Jordan Hutchins then both hit run-scoring sacrifice flies to increase Delaware's advantage to 5-2.

The Pride got a run back in the bottom of the eighth on an RBI double by Santino Rosso, while Steve Harrington singled home a run with two down in the ninth to make it a one-run game. Hofstra still had runners on the corners, but Dom Velazquez got Bruggeman to bounce out to short to seal the victory.

Joey Silan earned his third win of the year after allowing two runs on five hits with seven strikeouts in the opening six innings, while Velazquez gave up two runs in the final three frames to pick up his second save.

Carpenter and Dunion each finished with two hits on the day, while Freeman and Hutchins added one apiece.
