McCarthy Earns First CAA Defensive Player of the Week Honor

RICHMOND, Va. -  Senior Mercy McCarthy earned her first Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) Defensive Player of the Week honor announced by the conference office Monday.Â
The Washington, D.C., native notched her fourth-straight game with 10 or more saves, making 10 stops in the cage against Elon while boasting a .625 save percentage to earn her second-straight conference win. Her four saves in the fourth quarter prevented the Phoenix from scoring and helped secure the win for the Blue Hens.Â
McCarthy currently ranks fifth in the CAA with a .429 save percentage and fourth with a 8.15 saves per game average. Her 10 or more saves streak began when she made 11 stops against Drexel, March 30. McCarthy posted 10 saves against Hofstra (April 6) and 12 saves against William & Mary (April 9) in her first conference win.Â
Delaware travels to Harrisonburg, Va., to play No. 11 James Madison Saturday, April 23 at 1 p.m.
