TOWSON, Md. – Zach Klapak allowed just one hit in 5.2 innings of scoreless relief as Delaware defeated Towson, 6-2, Sunday afternoon at Schuerholz Park to sweep the three-game CAA series.
The Blue Hens received dominant pitching all weekend, as their four combined runs allowed were the fewest in a weekend set since giving up just four to Hofstra in 2014. Delaware has now won five straight games, the longest streak since also taking five in a row from Apr. 2-9, 2019.
Blue Hen starter Wyatt Nelson gave up two runs on five hits in the opening 3.1 frames, before Klapak came in and shut the door from there. With runners on the corners and one out in the fourth, he immediately got a double play to escape the jam, and then allowed just two walks in the fifth and a single in the eighth. Klapak, who struck out three batters on the day, improved to 4-0 on the year and now leads the pitching staff in victories.
Towson scored twice in the bottom of the first when Elijah Dickerson tripled home a run and then crossed the plate on a sacrifice fly by Burke Camper, but would not score again.
Joseph Carpenter worked a bases loaded walk in the third to get Delaware on the board, and after JJ Freeman drove home a run on an infield single in the fifth, Bryce Greenly crossed the plate on a Towson error to give Delaware the lead.
Nick Vera belted a solo homer in the sixth, his third longball of the year, to make it a 4-2 game. Carpenter hit a sacrifice fly to drive home Jordan Hutchins before Dominic Ragazzo scored on a wild pitch in the ninth to give the Blue Hens a pair of insurance runs.
Ragazzo and Freeman each finished the day with two hits, while Carpenter drove home a pair in the win.

"It was a great weekend of pitching from the entire staff. Zach Klapak was terrific going 5.2 innings of relief and allowing just one hit; I'm really proud of him as well as the rest of the staff. Offensively we did enough in each game to win. Just a great weekend overall."
