Delaware Sets Strikeout Record in 12-4 Victory Over Saint Peter’s

Bryce Greenly, JJ Freeman and Nick Vera each posted three hits on the night while Dominic Ragazzo, Joseph Carpenter and Joey Loynd added two apiece for Delaware, which won its seventh straight game.
Ludman earned his fourth win of the year after allowing four runs (one earned) on four hits while striking out 14 batters in seven innings of work, before Klapak struck out five in two scoreless frames of relief. The Blue Hens' 19 combined strikeouts eclipsed the previous record of 17 vs. UCLA on Apr. 1, 1969.
Ragazzo put Delaware in front by leading off the bottom of the first with an inside the park home run, and after Greenly doubled, he stole third and scored on an error by Peacocks third baseman Parker Gray.
Saint Peter's took advantage of two Blue Hen errors to push across four runs in the top of the third, highlighted by a two-run double by Sam Haney.
Delaware got a run back in the bottom half when Ragazzo led off with a single, stole second and scored on an RBI single by Greenly. The Blue Hens then took control by scoring five times in the bottom of the fifth.
Aidan Kane worked a bases loaded walk to force home the first run of the frame, while Carpenter then crossed the plate on a wild pitch to put Delaware in front. Loynd followed with a two-run double, and after a Vera single, Loynd scored on a squeeze bunt by Jordan Hutchins to make it an 8-4 game.
Vera singled home Jake Dunion in the seventh, while Freeman and Carpenter delivered consecutive RBI triples during a three-run eighth that closed the scoring.
Jim Sherman
"We got really good pitching tonight. They scored four runs in the third inning but we kicked the ball around and Ludman only gave up one earned run, so you couldn't ask for a better effort out of him. With 19 strikeouts, obviously the pitchers did their job. Then the bats woke up midway through the game with Freeman, Greenly and Vera having really good games. So it was a good overall game offensively, and we'll get back at it tomorrow."
