Blue Hens Fall in CAA Semifinals

PHILADELPHIA - The Delaware women's lacrosse team took a two-goal lead early in the third quarter of the CAA Tournament Semifinals, but Towson went on a six-goal scoring streak to pull off a 12-8 win.
The Blue Hens (5-12) netted the first goal of the tournament in the first two minutes of the game when CAA Rookie of the Year Delaney McDaniel connected with Danielle Livornese in the middle of eight. The teams then went back and forth, with UD goals from Danika Swech, Sydni Rosa and a second from Livornese, to end the first quarter knotted at 4-4.
Rosa scored both of Delaware's goals in the second quarter to earn her second career hat trick. Meanwhile Towson (9-7) scored twice in the second quarter as well to keep the game tied 6-6 at the end of the half.
Lizzie Hsu came out on fire after halftime, scoring back to back goals to give the Blue Hens their largest lead of the game at 8-6. However the Tigers answered back by scoring three straight goals to take a 9-8 lead at the end of the third quarter.
The Tigers scored the lone three goals of the fourth quarter, extending their scoring streak to six, setting the 12-8 final score.
Blue Hen goalkeeper Mercy McCarthy made seven stops in the cage while posting a .368 save percentage. Towson's Carly Merlo recorded eight saves and had an even .500 save percentage.
Towson held the advantage in shots (27-19), shots on goal (19-16) and draw controls (14-10). Delaware had a 16-15 edge in ground balls.
