NEWARK, Del. – Due to inclement weather over the past two days, the University of Delaware softball team's weekend series against the College of Charleston has been canceled. With the cancellation of the final three games of the season, the Blue Hens close out CAA play with an 11-4 record for a .733 winning percentage, clinching the program's first-ever CAA Regular Season Championship.
"To be able to control our seeding without needing to wait and see how other series play out speaks to the consistency we've had all season," said Delaware Head Coach Jen Steele. "The last few weeks have been tough and it's been difficult not being able to control whether we were able to play. I'm just really proud of the team for putting us in a position to bring home the regular season title to Delaware. The rest has been good for our bodies and we are excited to take the field at the CAA Championship next week."
The Blue Hens will be the No. 1 seed at next week's CAA Championship, which will be held on the campus of Elon University. Delaware will play its first game at 4 p.m. on Thursday, May 12 against the winner of that morning's matchup between the No. 4 and No. 5 seed.
