Men's Lacrosse Hosts Robert Morris in NCAA Opening Round

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - The Delaware men's lacrosse team was selected to host Robert Morris Wednesday, May 11 at 7 p.m. in the opening round of the NCAA Division I Men's Lacrosse Tournament.Â
The Blue Hens (11-5) earned their first CAA Championship title since 2011 after defeating Towson, 11-6, Saturday afternoon earning an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament. The Colonials (10-5) earned their automatic bid through a 18-17 overtime win over Utah in the Atlantic Sun (ASUN) championship game.

Tye Kurtz led the Blue Hens against Towson tying the CAA Tournament single-game record with six goals, while five other players had one apiece. JP Ward led all players with two assists. Matt Kilkeary finished with six saves. The all-tournament team included JP Ward, Mike Robinson, Matt Kilkeary, and Most Valuable Player Tye Kurtz. The Blue Hens previously won championships in 2007, 2010, and 2011 with the win on Saturday marking the first CAA Tournament Championship for Head Coach Ben DeLuca.
As for Robert Morris, it is the first conference win for RMU since 2019 and RMU will be the first ASUN lacrosse champion of the conference's rebirth. This will be the third NCAA appearance for RMU and the eighth conference title for the Colonials. Additionally, Craig McDonald is the first head coach in Robert Morris program history to win the conference title in his first year with the program. Jake Boudreau had a career day in the ASUN Championship, scoring seven goals and accumulating ten points. His ten points in a single game ties him for second all-time in points in a single game.
The winner of the opening round will play at No. 2 Seed Georgetown, date and times to be set at a later date.
