2022 Women’s Lacrosse Year-In-Review

NEWARK, Del. - The 2022 Delaware women's lacrosse season came to a close on May 6, but there were many moments along the way to look back on including an upset over a top-20 team and a trip to the CAA Semifinals.
McDaniel appeared in all 17 games, making 16 starts in her freshman campaign. The CAA Rookie of the Year was second on the team with 39 points (11g, 28a), while she also finished second in the CAA by averaging 1.65 assists per game. Additionally, McDaniel earned a spot on the CAA All-Rookie Team and earned weekly conference honors twice this season.
Fellow freshmen Grant, Saroney and Schelling also made an impact for the Hens, combining for 19 points. Saroney had 10 points (8g, 2a) while Grant recorded eight goals. Schelling became a starter on defense midway through the season, scooping up 12 ground balls and causing five turnovers. The three freshmen combined for 38 draw controls with Saroney leading the way with 22.
Transfers Yurchak and Rosa became major factors on Delaware's attack as they combined for 39 points. Yurchak was fifth on the team with 21 points (14g, 7a), while Rosa was sixth with 18 points (17g, 1a). Yurchak was a threat in the midfield, ranking third on the team with 26 draw controls and 13 caused turnovers. Rosa earned CAA All-Tournament Team honors after posting a hat trick in the CAA Semifinals against Towson.
McDaniel found her name in the record books as well, dishing out the most assists in a single-season by a freshman with 28. She also ranks 6th all-time as an individual single season leader with her 28 assists.
Goalkeeper Mercy McCarthy ranks fifth in individual single-game records with 17 stops against No. 4 Maryland (March 1). Her 17 saves at Maryland along with Sophia Foohey's 4 stops helped hit the record books with 21 team saves, the fifth most in a single-game record and was seventh in NCAA DI game-highs (March 3).
The Blue Hens took down No. 18 Temple, 11-10, March 11, marking the first win over a ranked opponent since defeating No. 14 James Madison April 23, 2017. Junior Lizzie Hsu tallied a career-high four goals and an assist in the win.

Welcome Newbies

Going Down in History
Sophomore Danielle Livornese made her mark in Delaware's record books as the Blue Hens' draw control specialist. She tied the single-season record with 81 draw controls this season and currently ranks sixth all-time with 87 career draw controls. Her 10 draw controls against No. 11 James Madison (April 23) and Army (March 9) tie for third as an individual single-game record. Livornese earned a spot on the CAA All-Tournament Team and was third in the CAA by averaging 5.06 draw controls per game.McDaniel found her name in the record books as well, dishing out the most assists in a single-season by a freshman with 28.
