Volleyball Battles Seton Hall

PHILADELPHIA –The University of Delaware volleyball team fell in four sets (15-25, 25-15, 14-25, 25-27) to Seton Hall (2-0) Saturday afternoon inside McGonigle Hall in Philadelphia.
Seton Hall finished the match outhitting Delaware .269 to .178. The Blue Hens (0-2) held the edge in kills (50-49), assists (46-44) and digs (57-54) while the Pirates led the way in points (60-53), aces (6-2) and blocks (5-1).
After Seton Hall took the 25-15 set one win, Delaware regrouped and refocused on making sure set two was theirs to claim, hitting at a match-best clip of .467. The Pirates made it a 10-all game before the Blue Hens put together a dominating 10-1 run, highlighted by Lani Mason serving nine-straight points, 20-11. Lily Rogers dished out Delaware's last three points of the set to secure the 25-15 set two win.
The Pirates took the 2-1 set lead after closing set three on a 13-5 spurt to capture the 25-14 win. Playing with their backs against the wall, Delaware kept it close the majority of the fourth set. The seesaw battle commenced as the Blue Hens used a 5-2 run to earn set point capped by Rogers' timely kill, 25-24. Seton Hall went on to score three-straight points to settle the 27-25 set four final and earn their second win on the young season.
Mason finished the evening with 14 kills and 13 digs to post her second double-double of the season. Savannah Seemans followed with 14 kills and 11 digs to register her second double-double of the season. Rogers directed the Blue Hen offense with a match-high 34 assists to go with 13 digs and five kills to record her first double-double of the season. Eileen Gex anchored the Blue Hen defense with 14 digs.
Jenna Walsh paced Seton Hall with match-high 16 kills while Perri Lucas chipped in 14 kills. Madison Klungel dished out 30 assists and Anna Holland scooped up 16 digs.
