Men's Soccer Falls In Nailbiter To William & Mary

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – The University of Delaware men's soccer team was defeated by William & Mary, 2-1, on Saturday.
Much of the first half featured tight defense on both sides, but the Tribe (1-2-2, 1-1-0 CAA) struck first on a goal in the 42nd minute by Nathan Messer. Adam Vik made three saves in the first half, while the Blue Hens (1-3-1, 0-2-0) attempted four shots.
Delaware fought back in the second half and were able to tie the game in the waning minutes. Sam Donnellan and Florian Phlepsen connected for the equalizer in the 80th minute. The goal was the second of Donnellan's career, while Phlepsen picked up his second career assist. However, Levengood scored the tie-breaking goal in the 81st minute to give the Tribe the lead for good.
Vik tied his career-high in saves made with five for the second consecutive game, as he also had five against Saint Joseph's on Sept. 10.
Delaware returns home for a two-game homestand starting on Tuesday, Sept. 13 against George Washington before playing Elon on Saturday, Sept. 17.
