Men's Soccer Preview: Elon

NEWARK, Del. – The University of Delaware men's soccer team will wap up their two-game homestand when they host Elon for their first home CAA matchup of the season on Saturday at 3:00 p.m.

What You Need to Know:

Delaware opened its season with a 2-0 win over Mount St. Mary's on Thursday, August 25, giving head coach Tommy McMenemy his first career victory. The Blue Hens also defeated George Washington on Sept. 13 behind two goals by Sam Donnellan. Delaware and Saint Joseph's played to a 1-1 draw on Sept. 6.
Donnellan leads the CAA with four goals, while Seidu Shamsudeen has scored a pair of goals. Florian Phlepsen (two), Jordan Miller, and Carlos Fernandez each have recorded an assist.
Adam Vik has recorded 25 saves through the first six games of the season to lead the CAA, including a career-high six in a shutout of George Washington. Vik also recorded a shutout against Mount St. Mary's in his collegiate debut on August 25.
Delaware is 4-3-1 all-time against Elon all-time. Elon won the last matchup, 1-0, on Sept. 11, 2021, but the Blue Hens defeated Phoenix on Sept. 28, 2019, 3-2, in Newark.

The Opponent:

Elon is 4-1-0 so far on the season, with their only defeat coming at home against Northeastern in their CAA opener on Sept. 3.
Elon was tabbed to finish in third place in the preseason CAA poll, and Kasper Lehm and Jannik Videbaek were named to the preseason All-Conference team. Mason Duval (three) and Scott Vatne (two) lead the Phoenix in goals scored, while Ryan Bilichuk has 14 saves in five games and four shutouts as the keeper.
Head coach Marc Reeves is in his sixth season with Eon, and enters the game with a career record of 26-27-10. Reeves was a three-time Big South Regular Season Champion as the head coach of Radford 2010-2016, twice being named conference Coach of the Year.
