Volleyball Match Preview: Northeastern

NEWARK, Del. – The University of Delaware volleyball team returns to campus to open CAA play this weekend, Saturday, Sept. 17-Sunday, Sept. 18, against Northeastern. Both matches are scheduled for a 2 p.m. start.

What You Need to Know:

This will be the 58th meeting between Delaware and Northeastern, with the Huskies holding the 30-27 all-time record. The Blue Hens hold the 12-8 home advantage.
The last time the Blue Hens and the Huskies met was during the 2021 CAA Championships, where Delaware captured the straight-sets victory over Northeastern to advance to the semifinals on Nov. 18 in Towson, Md. Both teams split the regular-season series on Oct. 16-17 with 3-0 wins. UD last hosted Northeastern during the 2019 season and the Huskies were victorious in three sets on Oct. 20.
The Blue & Gold are now .500 (4-4) on the young season, after winning three-straight matches at the Winthrop Tournament (Sept. 9-10). Delaware played nine sets and earned nine set wins over Wyoming, Winthrop and Davidson and were led by Lani Mason. With her impressive performance at the tournament, Mason was named the tournament's MVP and Lily Rogers joined her on the All-Tournament team. On Monday, Mason was tabbed as the CAA's Offensive Player of the Week.
Northeastern hosted their tournament on Sept. 9-10, where the Huskies went 1-2 on the weekend and move to 3-6 on the season.
Delaware will enter the weekend series holding a home winning streak of seven matches, dating back to last season on Oct. 3 against Hofstra.
The statline against Davidson: Mason finished with 20 kills and nine digs while Rogers followed with eight kills. Ezgi Basaranlar dished out 35 assists and Eileen Gex, Savannah Seemans and Amelia Painter anchored the Blue Hen defense with 17, 16 and 10 digs, respectively.

Up Next: Delaware will travel to Hampton, Va. and will face new conference foe Hampton in a CAA weekend series Saturday, Sept. 24 and Sunday, Sept. 25. Both matches are slated for a 2 p.m. start inside Holland Hall.
