Sgambelluri Set To Compete At 2023 USATF U20 Cross Country Championships

RICHMOND, Va. – Its first of its kind in over a decade, the University of Delaware cross country team will be represented at the 2023 USA Track & Field (USATF) U20 Cross Country Championships by freshman distance runner Nina Sgambelluri.
Sgambelluri heads to Richmond, Va. on Saturday, Jan. 21 to race on Pole Green Park's 6K course among a field of 37 athletes. The Greenwich, N.Y. native will be looking to be one of the six athletes to qualify for the 2023 World Athletics Cross Country Championships scheduled to be held Feb. 18 in Bathurst, Australia. Sgambelluri is also one of two Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) athletes competing in the event (Katie Blount, Elon).
This past fall, Sgambelluri completed her first cross country season, competing in four races, and posted a career-best time of 21:56.0 at the Roy Griak Invitational, hosted by the University of Minnesota on Sept. 23, 2022.
Pole Green Park course served as the host site for the 2008 USATF National Junior Olympic Cross Country Championships and has hosted 4 Atlantic 10 Conference Championships. Sgambelluri's 6K race is scheduled for a 12:30 p.m. start.
