Women's Basketball Game Preview: Towson

NEWARK, Del. – A matchup that never disappoints will commence on Friday, Jan. 20 as Delaware returns to the First State and will welcome Towson for its 87th meeting inside Bob Carpenter Center. Opening tip is slated for 7 p.m. and fans can catch the action on NBC Philadelphia or on FloHoops.

What You Need to Know:
- The Blue Hens hold the 62-24 all-time record and a 32-10 mark in Newark. This will be the first time that head coaches Sarah Jenkins and Laura Harper will be meeting as the helms of their respective programs.
- The last time Delaware and Towson met was at last year's CAA semifinals game, where the Blue Hens in the most dramatic fashion possible outlasted the Tigers with clutch free throws to capture the 56-55 win to advance to the championship game on Mar. 12, 2022. The Blue & Gold have won seven of the last 10 matchups, currently on a five-game winning streak against the Tigers.
- The last time Delaware saw the hardwood was on Sunday, Jan. 15, when the Blue Hens captured a dominating 69-52 road victory over new conference foe North Carolina A&T, snapping the Aggies' six-game winning streak and handing them their first CAA loss. Delaware is currently on a two-game winning streak and looking to extend it to three.
- The statline at NC A&T: Kharis Idom led all scorers by tying her season-best 18 points (7-9 FG, 4-4 3PT) to go along with five rebounds, three assists and one steal. Jewel Smalls followed with 12 points, all from draining four triples, to go with seven rebounds, three assists, a block and a steal. Klarke Sconiers chipped in 11 points, five rebounds, two blocks and two steals while Rebecca Demeke poured in a career-best 11 points (4-7 FG, 3-5 3PT) and pulled down four rebounds off the bench. Makayla Pippin grabbed a game-high 11 rebounds.
- In leading Delaware to an undefeated week, Sconiers averaged 15.0 points, 4.0 rebounds, 2.0 blocks, 1.5 steals and 1.0 assists per game while shooting 57.1 percent (12-21) from the field and 66.7 percent (6-9) from the free throw line to be recognized as CAA Player of the Week.
- Towson is currently on a three-game winning streak after capturing the 63-57 road victory over Monmouth on Sunday, Jan. 15. Ryann Evans and Anissa Rivera scored 14 and 11 points, respectively off the bench while Alexia Nelson followed with 10 points to round out the trio of Tiger scorers.
- Games played through Jan. 18, Delaware as a unit ranks 31st in defensive rebounds per game (28.8) and 40th in field goal percentage defense (36.4) among the national leaders. Jewel Smalls ranks 21st in three pointers per game (2.88), 35th in three pointers (46) and 43rd in three point attempts (123) among the NCAA leaders.
- Delaware leads the conference in defensive rebounds per game and field goal percentage defense. Smalls leads the CAA in three point attempts while ranking third in three pointers and fourth in three point percentage (37.4) and three pointers per game. Pippin ranks second in rebounds per game (8.9) and third in rebounds (142) while Sconiers ranks fifth in blocks (25) and blocks per game (1.56).
