Men’s Basketball Set for Battles with Hampton, Northeastern

HAMPTON, Va. – Delaware men's basketball (11-10, 3-5 CAA) has a pair of late-week contests, heading to Hampton (4-16, 1-7) on Thursday and returning home for a nationally-televised matinee with Northeastern (8-11, 4-4) on Saturday.

SCOUTING DELAWARE:

Delaware split with William & Mary and Drexel over the weekend, recording its highest point total (80) against the Tribe and falling in overtime in Philadelphia.
Jameer Nelson Jr. continues to lead the way in scoring for Delaware, coming into this matchup averaging 19.8 ppg and 5.1 rpg. Nelson scored 21 at Drexel on Saturday.
Nelson was named to the 50-player midseason watch list for the Oscar Robertson Trophy, the USBWA's National Player of the Year awarded since 1958-59.
Jyáre Davis had a career game at Drexel, scoring a career-high 28 points on 12-of-23 shooting. He has scored double figures in 34 of his last 35 games dating back to last season and is averaging 16.8 ppg and 5.4 rpg.
Cavan Reilly is heating up in January, averaging 8.2 ppg during this month. His 15 points and five three-pointers made at Drexel were both career highs.

SCOUTING HAMPTON:

Hampton earned its first-ever CAA conference victory on Saturday over fellow newcomer Monmouth, 83-66.
The leader of the Pirates' three-pronged attack is Russell Dean, who averages 14.3 ppg and 3.0 rpg. He has scored 21 points in consecutive games.
Jordan Nesbitt is right there in points (14.1 ppg) and leads the team in rebounding (6.8 rpg).
Marquis Godwin is the third leading scorer for the Pirates, chipping in 12.8 ppg and 2.5 rpg.
Opponents are outscoring Hampton by nearly 10 points per game this season.

SCOUTING NORTHEASTERN:

The Huskies have a date with Towson before they have a rematch against the Blue Hens.
The Huskies snuck out with a 59-58 win over Delaware on Jan. 16.
Northeastern's last action was a loss to no. 18 Charleston at home, 87-61.
Junior Jahmyl Telfort is the only double-digit scorer on the Huskies, coming into the Drexel game averaging 15.8 ppg and 4.7 rpg.
Chris Doherty is the leading rebounder, grabbing 6.0 rpg.

MATCHUP HISTORIES:

Delaware is 5-1 against Hampton and 3-0 on the road.
Delaware currently holds a five-game winning streak over Hampton, its second-longest win streak over any current member of the CAA (Elon, W7). These teams have not played as members of the same conference before.
Delaware holds a 33-29 edge in the series history over the Huskies.
