Men's Swimming & Diving Preview: Towson, Senior Day

NEWARK, Del. - The Delaware men's swimming and diving will celebrate Senior Day on Saturday, Jan. 28 against Towson. The Blue Hens will honor Jacob Bishop, Ryan Polino, and T.J. Yaglenski, as well as student managers and former athletes Isaiah Bell and Zach Cantrell prior to the start of the meet.
Bishop is a bio-medical engineer major, from Exeter, N.H., and has been named to the CAA Academic Honor Roll throughout his career. He received All-CAAÂ honors in the 1650 free in 2021 and is also the programming director of Student-Athlete Advisory Committee.
Polino is a mechanical engineering major from Chesterfield, Va. He was a member of the 400 free relay All-CAA team in 2022, and earned CAA Swimmer of the Week during his junior year. Ryan has also been a member of the conference Academic Honor Roll. He has finished third or better in four events this season, and has also served as captain. He plans to work as a transmission line engineer with Sargent and Lundy in Charlotte, N.C.
Yaglenski is a biomedical engineering major from Ashburn, Virginia. He was part of the 400 medley relay All-CAA team in 2021, and has earned CAA Academic Honor Roll recognition during his time at Delaware. He has finished in the top three three times this season at meets. He plans to work in insurance in Skippack, Penn. in the future.Â
Bell is a four-year member of the program, having competed for the first three years in college before transitioning to a student-manager role. Bell has helped lead progress in the creative content of the program, including video highlights, hype videos, away meet coverage, and photography, is a member of UDress Magazine, and earned CAA Academic Honor Roll recognition as a student-athlete.
Cantrell is also a four-year member of the program, having served as team-manger for the final three seasons as well. As a freshman. he finished fifth in the 1650 free and 15th in the 500 free at the CAA Conference Championships.Â

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW
Double Dual Meet vs UMBC, JHU
- Delaware opened its season with victories over UMBC and Johns Hopkins, 235-50-63.50 and 204.00 and 89.00, on Oct. 8 at Rawstrom Natatorium.Â
- In his collegiate debut, Matvei Namakonov placed first (21.04) in the 50 free.
- Gavin Currie finished in first place in the 100 back (50.67) and 200 back (1:51.18).
- Toni Sabev finished in first place (55.41) in the 100 breast and first place in the 200 breast (2:06.20).
- Simeon Sabev finished in first place in the 100 fly (49.70) and 200 fly (1:50.69).
- The 200 medley relay team of Currie, Toni Sabev, Simeon Sabev, and Kamakonov finished in first place (1:30.26).
- The 400 freestyle team of Toni Sabev, Namakonov, Ryan Polino, and Miguel Vasquez also finished in first place (3:05.39) in the 400 freestyle relay.
- In the 1-meter dive, Kevin Seigfried led the way in his first collegiate meet and took first place with a total score of 287.55. Siegfried also finished in first place in the 3-meter dive with a total of 300.45.
- Toni Sabev highlighted Delaware in the 100 breast with a first-place finish and season-best time of 55.28. Frick placed second in the 200 breast with a season-best time of 2:05.76.
- In the 100 back, Currie finished in second place (50.93) and T.J. Yaglenski in third place with a season-best time of 51.63. Currie also finished in second place in the 200 back with a season-best time of 1:48.49, while Dylan Smolders placed fourth (1:57.03).Â
- Namakonov finished in third place (21.25) in the 50 free and fifth place in the 100 free (47.36). Collins finished in fifth place in the 50 free (21.40) and seventh place in the 100 free (47.86), both season-best times.Â
- Vasquez recorded a second-place finish in the 100 free with a personal-best time of 46.16 and third place (1:44.50) in the 200 free. Jacob Replogle paced the Blue Hens in the 200 free with a second-place finish and season-best time of 1:43.19. Luke Rautzhan also recorded a personal-best time in the 100 free (47.64).Â
- Andrew Taylor led the Delaware trio in the 500 free with a second-place finish and season-best time of 4:34.46, with Replogle (4:43.27) and Kevin Lewke with a season-best time of 4:52.98 following behind.
- The 200 medley relay team of Currie, Toni Sabev, Simeon Sabev, and Namakonov finished in second place with a time of 1:30.44.
- Siegfried continued his strong performance from his first meet by finishing in fourth place in the 1-meter dive (249.75) and third place in the 3-meter dive (299.03).
- The Blue Hens defeated William & Mary, 208.00-84.00, on Nov. 5.
- Delaware took first place finishes in the 50, 100, 200, 500, and 100 free. Namakonov finished in first place in the 50 free with a season-best time of 20.92, Vasquez finished in first place in the 100 free (46.18), Replogle took first in the 200 free (1:44.62), and Smolders finished first in the 500 free (4:37.70) and 1000 free (9:37.96).Â
- Fechtman (51.60) and Yaglenski (51.82) took the top two spots in the 100 back, while Currie (1:51.21) and Replogle (1:55.04) claimed the top two spots in the 200 back. Replogle's time was a season-best.Â
- In the 100 breast, Toni Sabev finished in first place with a season-best time of 55.23. Delaware took the top three spots in the 200 breast, led by Frick (2:05.08), Toni Sabev (2:06.55), and Gibson (2:08.48). Frick's and Gibson's times in the 100 and 200 breast were season-bests
- Simeon Sabev finished in first place in the 100 fly (50.88).
- The quartet of Currie, Toni Sabev, Simeon Sabev, and Namakonov led the way in the 200-medley relay with a time of 1:30.83.
- The 400 free relay team of Simeon Sabev, Vasquez, Polino and Namakonov finished in first place with a time of 3:04.29.
- Siegfried came in first place in the 1-meter (314.18) and 3-meter dive (347.70). Siegfried's marks in both events were good for an NCAA Zone Cut mark.
- The Blue Hens defeated La Salle, 168.50-103.50, and Rider, 205.50-93.50, on Nov. 11.
- Currie came in first place in the 200 back (1:50.45) and second place (50.62) in the 100 back.
- Toni Sabev came in first place in the 100 breast (56.41), his third straight first-place finish in the 100 breast. Frick led a quartet of Blue Hens in the 200 breast with a first-place finish (2:04.71).Â
- In the 500 free, Taylor came in first place (4:40.16).
- In the 200-free relay, the quartet of Rautzhan, Simeon Sabev, Vasquez, and Namakonov placed in first with a time of 1:23.39.Â
- The 400 medley relay team of Currie, Toni Sabev, Simeon Sabev, and Vasquez finished in first place with a time of 3:20.42.
- Philip Townsend led Delaware in the 1-meter dive with a second-place finish (247.00), while Siegfried had a score of 225.95 and Josh Shipley with 191.30. Siegfried (284.30) and Townsend (275.30) led the 3-meter dive with first and second-place finishes.Â
- Delaware finished in second place with 1,332 points at the Bucknell Invitational.
- Namakonov set a new freshman program record in the 50 free (20.31) and finished in fourth place.
- Toni Sabev set a new program record in the 100 breast (52.17) and 200 breast (1:57.67), both first-place finishes.Â
- Currie set a new program record in the 200 back (1:44.45) and finished in first place.Â
- The team of Currie, Toni Sabev, Simeon Sabev, and Vasquez set a new program record in the 400 medley relay (3:11.63) and finished in first place.Â
- Currie, Toni Sabev, Simeon Sabev, and Namakonov finished in first place in the 200-medley relay.Â
- Â Delaware defeated West Chester, 137-100, on Friday, Dec. 2
- The Blue Hens claimed the top three spots in the 200 free. Replogle (1:44.06) finished first, Vasquez (1:44.19) finished second, and Currie (1:44.59) finished third. Taylor  won the 500 free (4:41.82) and 1000 free (9:46.44).Â
- In the 200 IM, Toni Sabev finished in first place (1:54.25) in the 200 IM and 100 breast (56.05), and Simeon Sabev led the way in the 100 fly (49.97).Â
- The 400 free relay team of Polino, Sabev, Taylor, and Vasquez finished first place with a time of 3:05.73.Â
- Siegfried took first place in the 1-meter dive with a score of 273.00 and the 3-meter dive with a score of 273.00.
- Delaware defeated Drexel, 145-98, to begin the 2023 calendar year. It's the Blue Hens' seventh straight victory, and their second against a CAA team this season (William & Mary, Nov. 5).
- Currie won the 200 back with a time of 1:50.16 and 200 breast with a time of 2:06.60.
- Toni Sabev took first place in the 200 IM (1:53.77). In the 200 fly, Hattery led the way.
- Taylor finished in first place in the 500 free (4:37.03) and first place in the 1000 free with a season-best time of 9:38.97.
- In the 1-meter diving, Siegfried placed first with a score of 320.25, a personal best, and second in the 3-meter diving (306.83). SiegfriedÂ
- Delaware defeated Seton Hall 183-116, on Jan. 21.
- Namakonov led the way with a time of 21.21 to finish in first place in the 50 free, while Vasquez finished in first place in the 100 free with a time of 46.29. Taylor won the 500 free with a time of 4:37.88.
- Toni Sabev (56.68) took top three spots in the 100-yard breast and 200 breast (2:08.59).
- The 100-yard back was won by Gavin Currie with a time of 50.43. Currie also won the 200-yard back at 1:50.26.
- In the 200 IM, Hattery placed in first at 1:55.63.
- The team of Currie, Toni Sabev, Simeon Sabev, and Namakonov finished in first place in the 200-medley relay with a time of 1:30.26.Â
- Siegfried won the 3-meter dive at 326.18.
CAA Awards
- Siegfried was named CAA Diver of the Week on Oct. 11 after his performance against UMBC and Johns Hopkins, on Oct. 25 after his performance against Yale, Nov. 8 after his performance against William & Mary, and on Dec. 6 after competing against West Chester.Â
- Siegfried was also named CAA Diver of the Month on Dec. 6.Â
- Smolders was named CAA Swimmer of the Week on Nov. 8 after his performance against William & Mary.Â
- Currie was named CAA Swimmer of the Week and Townsend was named CAA Diver of the Week on Nov. 15 after competing against La Salle and Rider.Â
