Johnson Named CAA Defensive Player Of The Week

RICHMOND, Va. - University of Delaware's Kirah Johnson was named CAA Defensive Player of the Week after helping the Blue Hens to two road wins over Stony Brook, as announced by the conference on Oct. 16.Â
Johnson led the conference with 16 total blocks during Delaware's two wins over Stony Brook, including 13 on Sunday. Her 13 blocks were tied for the fourth most in program history and the most by a Blue Hen since Chelsea Lawrence had 12 against UNCW on Oct. 5, 2012. It was also the second most blocks by a player in the CAA in a game this season. Johnson's defensive efforts held Stony Brook to a .130 hitting percentage for the weekend. She also contributed 14 kills and a .311 hitting percentage.Â
For the season, Johnson has played in all 70 sets, and is hitting .391 with 180 kills, 81 blocks, 2.57 kills per set, and 1.16 blocks per set. She is third in the CAA in hitting percentage and leads the conference in total blocks.Â
Delaware returns home after having played four consecutive road games to host Hofstra on Oct. 21 and Oct. 22.Â
