NEWARK, Del. – The University of Delaware field hockey team won its second consecutive game as the Blue Hens topped Towson University 2-1 Friday evening at home in Rullo Stadium.
COACH'S QUOTE
"We had a good week of preparations for this must-win CAA game against Towson. I want to compliment our team for finding ways to work through the ups and downs and earn the victory," said head coach Rolf van de Kerkhof. "With today's CAA scores elsewhere, our CAA postseason hopes came to an end and for the first time in my 13 years as a member of UDFH, the Blue Hens will miss out on the conference tournament next week. We will use this season experience and the lessons learned as a major driver in how we will proceed within the team setting the remainder of this fall and use it as direction and fuel for next spring," van de Kerkhof continued. "Our program can be proud for the way this team continues to believe in themselves regardless where we find ourselves in a game and to an extent during our season. They are fighters, they come ready to work and they are growing immensely as players and team as well as people and a group of young women."

- Just over six minutes into the third, Martorell sent a ball into the circle to Sabbagh who deflected it to Bradford who knocked in the equalizer and knotted the contest at 1-1
- Five minutes later, Martorell inserted a penalty corner to freshman Elen Nicholls who set up Duffhuis who promptly let it rip to give the Blue Hens a one-goal lead
- In the fourth, the Delaware defense held strong as Towson was awarded four penalty corners in the quarter, but could not find the back of the net as Duffhuis' goal proved to be the game-winner
