Speicher Scores Second Fastest Goal In Program History In Win Over Elon

ELON, N.C. – The University of Delaware women's soccer forward Raychel Speicher scored the second fastest goal in program history as the Blue Hens picked up its first win in Coastal Athletic Association play against Elon by a score of 1-0 on Thursday.
This was also the first conference win under first year head coach Kelly Lawrence.
With the win, the Blue Hens overall record improves to 4-4-6 and have seven points in conference play (1-2-5).
UD is tied for seventh place in the CAA standings. The top six teams make the conference tournament with the quarterfinals set to take place on Thursday, Oct. 26.

- "It was a great team win," Speicher said. "It was awesome that we were off to a great start and we put one away early. Then it just came down to us all fighting until the last minute to get the win."
HEN HIGHLIGHTS
- The Blue Hens had eight shots, including three shots on goal.
- All eight of the Blue Hens shots came from eight different athletes
- Kyla Burns started and played all 90 minutes of Thursday's contest. She racked up seven saves. She now has 38 saves on the season, including 25 saves over her last four starts.
- The go-ahead goal was scored by Speicher 26 seconds into the game. Speicher crossed the ball through a Phoenix defender's legs, and found the bottom left corner of the net. It was Speicher's second goal of the season.
- The Blue Hens had multiple chances to add to their lead in the first half. Lea Panagiotidis' shot off a corner kick in the 40th minute was saved the by the Elon team, and Katie Hackley's shot in the 41stminute was saved by the Phenoix goalkeeper.
- The defensive play of the game was made by Panagiotidis and Constanze Viehmann. The two made a play on the ball to block the shot of the Phoenix forward. The ball proceeded to hit off the post and land safely in Burns' hands.
- Speicher's goal to open the game was the fastest goal for the Blue Hens since Tracy Cantwell did it on Oct. 24, 1999 with a goal 19 seconds into the game.
- The Blue Hens defense and goalkeeping have not allowed a goal in 246 minutes of game time, dating back to the 24th minute in last Thursday's contest against Northeastern.
- Thursday's contest was the 10th all time meeting between the Blue Hens and Phoenix. The Blue Hens now own a 6-2-2 all-time record against Elon, including wins in four of their last five contests
- The Blue Hens stay in North Carolina and take on Campbell on Sunday, Oct. 8 at noon.
