Cross Country Has Strong Showing At NCAA Mid-Atlantic Regionals

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The University of Delaware cross country team headed back to familiar territory in Bethlehem, Pa. to compete at the NCAA Division I Cross Country Mid-Atlantic Regionals, hosted by Lehigh University. A course the team saw earlier this year in Goodman Campus XC Course, the Blue Hens was set to race against the best of the best in the region in efforts of landing a spot in next week's national championship. Despite facing stiff competition on the challenging course, the Blue Hens demonstrated their competitive spirit, finishing in 19th place out of 27 teams, headlined by a quartet of Blue Hen athletes setting new personal-best 6K times.

- As a team, Delaware racked up 537 points with a team average time of 22:00 to finish in 19th place.
- For the third-straight race, Molly Lashley set the pace being the first Blue Hen to cross the finish line with an impressive personal-best time of 21:39.2, securing 86th place overall. The Millville, Mass. native beat out her previous PB time of 22:03.7, one that she just set two weeks ago at the 2023 CAA Championships (Oct. 27).
- Right behind Lashley placing 93rd overall was Danielle Eshelman, who also ran a new PB time of 21:43.6. Eshelman previous PB time was one she also set at the CAA champs of 22:09.1.
- Lindsey Volkman (22:04.0, 115th overall) and Marissa Dailey (22:09.1, 122nd overall) also achieved new personal bests, contributing significantly to the team's performance.
- Tiffany Herrera rounded out the Blue Hen scoring five, completing the race in 22:24.1 and securing 133rd overall.
- Georgetown took the top spot by a score of 48 while Villanova's Sadie Sigfstead took home individual medalist with a time of 19:35.5
- Penn State (79), Penn (104), West Virginia (120) and Villanova (128) took the top five places and finished in respective order.
- Also competing in the Blue Hen uniform at regionals were:
- Nicole Re (22:45.8, 147th overall)
- Stephanie Herrera, who achieved a personal record with a time of 22:46.8, finishing 148th overall.
- The Blue Hens closed out the 2023 cross country season graduating a class of two seniors Carolyn Coletti and Nicole Schinder.
- Delaware hopes to have a Blue Hen athlete represent the Blue & Gold at USATF U20 XC Championships next year (Jan. 20), a race that Nina Sgambelluri competed in earlier this year.
