Men’s Basketball Heads South for Intrastate Battle at Delaware State

NEWARK, Del. – The University of Delaware men's basketball team looks to improve to 4-0 on the season as the Blue Hens head south to Dover for a bout with the Delaware State Hornets Wednesday night. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m.

ABOUT THE HENS

Delaware comes off a hard-fought 65-57 win over Air Force Sunday afternoon as the Blue Hens avenged last season's loss to the Falcons.
Jyáre Davis put up a game-high 21 points for his second 21-point performance in as many games.
With his third-straight double-digit point game, sophomore Tyler Houser has averaged 12.0 per game and is 6-for-9 from long range.
Both Davis and Christian Ray eclipsed the 800-career point plateau against Air Force.
Sunday's game was the third game in a row the Blue Hens finished with at least three players with double figure point totals.
The Hens look to go to 4-0 for the first time since the 2019-20 season.

ABOUT THE HORNETS

The Hornets return their top three scorers from a season ago as Martaz Robinson (11.8), Brandon Stone (11.1), and Khyrie Staten (9.4) are all back for the 2023-24 season.
Delaware State enters Wednesday's game with an 0-2 record after falling 79-45 to Penn State and 86-59 to Texas.
Jevin Muniz leads the Hornets with 11.5 points per game, while Alston Andrews leads the squad in boards per game with 5.5.
Through their first two games, Robinson and Stone have averaged 9.5 and 8.0 points per game, respectively.
Hornets head coach Stan Waterman played basketball for the Blue Hens, graduating in 1988.

SERIES HISTORY

The Hens and Hornets have a storied history going back to their first meeting on Dec. 5, 1991, when the Hornets got the best of the Blue & Gold defeating Delaware 99-95.
Wednesday's matchup will be the 23rd time the two squads square off.
The Blue Hens have taken the last three in a row, winning last year's contest 77-69.
Delaware and Delaware State met at least once each year from 2009 to 2019.
The Hens are 9-1 in Dover and have won five in a row on the Hornets' home floor.
