Men’s Basketball Remains Unbeaten After 78-67 Win at Delaware State

DOVER, Del. – The University of Delaware men's basketball team held off a late comeback attempt by Delaware State Wednesday night to come out victorious, 78-67. The Blue Hens remain unbeaten on the season at 4-0, while the Hornets drop to 0-3.

HEN HIGHLIGHTS

Jyáre Davis led the Hens with 20 points. He's now scored at least 20 in all three games he's played this season. The Newark, Delaware native added six rebounds to his line.
Gerald Drumgoole Jr. tallied his Blue Hen high of 16 points on a 6-for-12 night, including 4-for-6 from long range.
Christian Ray fell one rebound short of a double-double after recording 15 points and nine boards. Ray shot 60-percent overall (6-for-10).
Niels Lane rounded out the quartet of double-figure scorers with 10 points.
Kobe Jerome handed out a career-best four assists.
Delaware shot 54-percent overall and a season-best 57.1 percent (8-for-14) from three-point land.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Delaware tallied the first seven points of the game before the hosting Hornets found the scoreboard. After DSU's first bucket, the Hens ripped off a 25-14 spurt to the eight-minute mark for a sizable 32-16 advantage. UD finished the half up 44-28 with 10 points apiece from Davis and Ray.
With the Blue & Gold up 53-32, the Hornets rallied a 12-0 run over 4:24 to cut the deficit to nine at 53-44 with 10:55 left in the half. Delaware State would work it down to a four-point differential at 64-60 with 5:23 on the clock. That gap was ultimately insurmountable.
