NEWARK, Del. – University of Delaware Director of Golf Programs Patty Post has announced that Jackie Mullens has been elevated to the position of associate head coach of the women's golf team. Mullens is in her third season with the Blue Hens having served as an assistant coach with both the men's and women's programs since the start of the 2021-22 season.
"I am very proud of the promotion of Jackie Mullens as our associate head women's golf coach," Post said. "She has earned this role with her dedication to our players and her passion for golf! Jackie is so thoughtful in her interactions with our players and recruiting the next great Blue Hens. Her additional leadership puts our women's golf program in a great place for continuing success."
Mullens has helped lead the women's program to consecutive second-place finishes at the CAA Championships in each of her first two years. In her first season in 2021-22, the Blue Hens recorded ten Top-10 finishes and defended their team title at the Kingsmill Intercollegiate with Oihana Etxezarreta taking home medalist honors for the second-straight year.
The 2022-23 women's team recorded nine more top-10 finishes in its 10 tournaments, including three second-place showings. The Blue Hens placed second at the 2023 CAA Championship, marking their fourth runner-up finish in the past five championships.
In her first tournament with the UD men's program at the 2021 Golfweek Fall Challenge, Mullens helped lead the Blue Hens to a three-round total of 834 to easily beat the previous mark of 848. Delaware carded a final round of 18-under par 270, the second-lowest team round in program history, to win the team title and beat Mercer University by one stroke. Overall, the Blue Hens recorded nine top-10 finishes in her first season and eight more in 2022-23.
Before arriving in Newark, Mullens started her career in coaching at Seton Hall University, where for three years she helped lead the Pirates to 18 top-10 finishes, three team victories, four individual victories and a BIG East Championship runner-up finish. The program reached a ranking of 54th in the country during the 2019-20 season. Mullens coached nine All-American Scholar award winners.
Mullens played her collegiate career at Rutgers University, earning Big Ten all-academic honors and graduating in 2016 with a degree in Exercise Science-Kinesiology.
"I am excited to continue my journey as a Blue Hen and thank Coach Patty for believing in my abilities as a coach," Mullens said. "Being able to build this program with Patty and to be a part of such a collaborative group of individuals has been such a great resource in my individual development. The University of Delaware is an amazing institution with a dedicated community surrounding it, whose loyalty drives us to reach for new heights and become the toughest competitors in the CAA. I can't wait to see what the future has in store for us."
