Men’s Basketball Embarks on Eighth Season Under Ingelsby; Starts at Bucknell, Hosts Goldey-Beacom

NEWARK, Del. – The University of Delaware men's basketball team opens the 2023-24 slate in Lewisburg, Pa. as the Blue Hens head to Bucknell on Monday, Nov. 6, before returning to Newark for their home opener against Goldey-Beacom on Wednesday, Nov. 8. Tipoff for both games is set for 7 p.m.

ABOUT THE HENS
- The Hens return seven players from a season ago, highlighted by fifth year Christian Ray and senior Jyáre Davis.
- Davis finished second on the team in both points per game (15.3) and boards per game (5.6). He shot 56.7-percent from the field and was an All-CAA Third Team selection. Davis landed on the league's All-CAA Preseason Second Team.
- Ray averaged close to a double-double with 9.5 points and 8.5 rebounds.
- The Blue Hens welcome seven newcomers, with six transfers and one true freshman.
- Gerald Drumgoole Jr. highlights the group of newcomers after leading Albany in points (15.7), rebounds (5.4),and steals (1.3) per game.
- He's joined by Zion Bethea (St. Francis Brooklyn), Tyler Houser (VMI), Kobe Jerome (UC Riverside), Niels Lane (Florida), and Jalun Trent (North Dakota).
- Bethea (10.7) and Houser (10.8) each averaged double-figure scoring totals.
- The 2023-24 season is the first under head coach John Griffin III. Griffin returns to his alma mater after spending the past four seasons as the associate head coach at Saint Joseph's.
- Bucknell lost its top-three scorers from a year ago.
- In their place are incoming transfers Quin Berger (Saint Joseph's) and Pip Ajayi (Mercyhurst) and true freshmen Brandon McCreesh and Patrick O'Brien.
- Jack Forrest is the highest scorer and rebounder returning for the Bison, as he averaged 10.1 points and 3.9 boards per game.
- The Bison were picked ninth in this year's Patriot League preseason poll.
- The Bison hold a 52-34 record against the Blue Hens.
- Bucknell is the fourth most common opponent in UD program history. The teams squared off as conference rivals in the MAC and ECC.
- The Delaware/Bucknell rivalry stems all the way back to 1906.
- The last time the Blue Hens traveled to Lewisburg, Delaware came away with an 81-68 victory over the Bison.

ABOUT THE LIGHTNING
- Zayon Marsh returns for his sophomore year for Goldey-Beacom as he led the Lightning in both points (18.7) and rebounds (10.1) last season.
- The Lightning added three true freshmen to the 2023-24 roster.
- The Blue Hens hold a 1-0 record over the Lightning.
- The only matchup between the two programs came on Nov. 11, 2016 in what was head coach Martin Ingelsby's first game at the helm of the Blue Hens. Delaware won 64-56 at the BCC.
