Davis Scores Career Best as Men’s Basketball Falls to Rider in OT

NEWARK, Del. – Despite tying his career high with 28 points, Jyáre Davis and the University of Delaware men's basketball team fell to Rider 88-85 in overtime at the Bob Carpenter Center Wednesday night.

HEN HIGHLIGHTS
- Davis last scored 28 points at Drexel last season. He finished Wednesday's game 8-for-17 from the field. He also tallied five rebounds, four assists, and three steals.
- He was joined in double figures by Jalun Trent (15), Cavan Reilly (11), and Gerald Drumgoole Jr. (10).
- Christian Ray neared a double-double with nine points and eight rebounds.
- Delaware had a season-low four turnovers.
- Davis hit a trey at the 18:10 mark for Delaware's first points of the night. By the 11:45 stamp, it was a 17-15 contest in favor of the Broncs. The Hens cut the lead to 28-25 after a Reilly triple with 5:04 left in the first. Delaware continued to trail until back-to-back three-pointers from Reilly and Drumgoole Jr. knotted the game at 38-all, but a Broncs layup from Tariq Ingraham with 16 seconds left put Rider ahead 40-38 headed into the break.
- To open the second half, Davis tied the game at 40, but the Broncs followed with a 6-0 run. After an Allen Powell jumper gave Rider a 56-49 edge with 12:37 to go, the Hens went on a 9-3 run capped off by a Davis jumper to tie the game at 63-63 with 8:05 left in regulation. Just over three minutes later, Reilly knocked down a triple to tie the game at 72-72. From the 4:45 mark on, the Broncs and Hens battled back-and-forth, going shot for shot as Delaware clawed back and forced overtime tied at 80.
- In OT, the Hens took an 85-84 lead with1:06 remaining with all five points coming from Davis. The Broncs continued to fight as Rider finished the game on a 4-0 run and held the Blue Hens scoreless down the stretch to come away with the win.
- This is the fifth time Delaware had four or more players with double digit points, but only the second time in a losing effort (Nov. 26 vs. George Washington).
- Wednesday night's game was Davis' sixth game of the year with 20-plus points and his sixth-straight game with 17 or more.
- This was only Delaware's ninth loss to Rider at the BCC in 30 meetings between the two teams.
