Davis Surpasses 1,000 Career Points as Men’s Basketball Late Comeback Falls Just Short Against Princeton

NEWARK, Del. – Despite scoring a season-high 55 points in a half and Jyáre Davis reaching the 1,000-point threshold, the University of Delaware men's basketball team dropped a late-game thriller to Princeton, 84-82, Saturday afternoon. The Hens' second half took a 17-point deficit down to one point, but couldn't overcome the gap.
Delaware ends the non-conference schedule at 8-5 overall, while the Tigers move to 12-1.

HENS HIGHLIGHTS
- Davis led all Blue Hens with 18 points, while three others followed suit as Jalun Trent (16), Cavan Reilly (15), and Gerald Drumgoole Jr. (13) all finished in double figures.
- Trent notched with a career-high 11 assists and tallied his first career double-double. He's the first Hen to record a double-double in points and assists since Jarvis Threatt had 13 points and 13 assists on March 1, 2014.
- Trent also tied for a team-high six rebounds.
- As a team, the Hens shot 55.7 percent from the field, including 72.4 percent (21-for-29) in the second half. UD connected on 6-of-9 second-half triples.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Delaware started with a 9-2 advantage before Princeton tallied 15 of the next 17, including six unanswered, for a 17-11 lead at the 11:34 media timeout. Following the second media timeout of the half, the Hens used a 6-0 run to cut it to a 25-23 deficit. Saturday's contest continued to be a game of runs as the Tigers went on an 11-2 spurt, making four straight field goals, to take a 36-25 lead with 2:56 left in the half. Princeton held the Hens to just 27 points, Delaware's lowest first-half total this season, for a 43-27 lead.
- The Hens opened the second half going 5-for-5 including a fade away jumper from Davis for his 1,000th career point. Delaware outscored the Tigers 13-10 to start the second frame to make it a 53-40 contest with 14:58 left. By the 4:32 mark, the Tigers held a 70-57 lead, but after a 10-0 margin from the Hens and a 1-for-9 cold spell from Princeton, Delaware cut it to a four-point game with 3:04 left. Over the final 20 seconds, Drumgoole Jr. went 3-for-3 from long range to cut it to a one-point game with five seconds left. Despite the Hens going 9-for-9 to close out the game, the Tigers continued to hold an edge and handed the Hens their second straight loss.
GAME NOTES
- Davis became the first player since Kevin Anderson and Ryan Allen to score all 1,000 points in a Blue Hens uniform. Anderson and Allen did so from 2017-2022. Including Davis, 39 players have tallied 1,000 career points, with 38 scoring all in the Blue & Gold.
- Delaware outscored Princeton 55-41 in the second half. It was the highest scoring half for Delaware this season.
- The Hens' 27 first half points are the fewest in a half this season.
