Men’s Basketball Starts CAA Play with Hampton at Home, Hofstra on the Road

NEWARK, Del. – The University of Delaware men's basketball team opens CAA action on Thursday, Jan. 4 as the Blue Hens host the Hampton Pirates at the Bob Carpenter Center at 7 p.m. Following their bout with the Pirates, the Hens head to Hempstead, N.Y. to face Hofstra at 2 p.m. on Saturday.

ABOUT THE HENS
- Delaware enters Thursday's contest with an 8-5 record.
- The Hens come off two-straight home losses to Rider 88-85 in OT and to Princeton 84-82 loss to Princeton.
- Jalun Trent captured his second CAA Player of the Week award after a 16-point, 11-assist performance against Princeton. It was the third time this season a Blue Hen earned the weekly honor.
- Jyáre Davis eclipsed the 1,000-point mark for his career and became the 39th Delaware player to reach that mark.
- Davis was the first Blue Hen to do it all in a Delaware uniform since Kevin Anderson and Ryan Allen achieved the feat from 2017-2022.
- Entering CAA action, Davis is fourth in points per game (19.5) and third in minutes per game (34.5), while Christian Ray is second in rebounds per game with 8.5.
- The Hens are slated in at No. 138 in the latest NET Rankings.
- Delaware has not won its CAA opener since defeating Charleston on Jan. 2 in the 2020 season.
ABOUT THE PIRATES
- Hampton comes to the Bob with a 4-9 overall record.
- The Pirates opened CAA play with a 99-65 loss to Drexel on New Year's Day.
- Hampton averages 79.2 points per game thus far and has allowed an average of 77.1.
- Kyrese Mullen leads the Pirates in scoring with 15.6 points per game followed by Tedrick Wilcox Jr.'s 13.2 points per game.
- Mullen leads the CAA with 9.6 boards per game.
- Hampton was ranked No. 338 in the latest NET Rankings.
SERIES HISTORY - HAMPTON
- Delaware and Hampton first met on Nov. 27, 2007 in the Bob Carpenter Center where the Pirates took down the Hens 51-50.
- The Blue Hens went on to win the next five meetings in a row until the Pirates topped the Hens 67-66 in Virginia on Jan. 26, 2023.
- Five of the seven meetings have been decided by four or less points.
ABOUT THE PRIDE
- Prior to facing the Hens on Jan. 6, the Pride open CAA action at home against Charleston at 7 p.m. on Thursday.
- Hofstra's Tyler Thomas leads the CAA in points per game with 22.2 and is sixth in all of Division I.
- Darlinstone Dubar is second on the squad in scoring with 18.2 points per game and leads the Pride in rebounds per game with 6.3.
- Jaquan Carlos' 6.8 assists per game leads the conference and is ninth in the country in that category.
- The Pride as a whole have averaged 77.0 points per game, while holding opponents to 71.2 points per game.
- The Pride and Hens had two common opponents in their non-conference schedule in both Princeton and George Washington.

- Saturday's contest will be the 102 meeting between the Pride and Hens with the former holding a 67-34 record.
- The last meeting between the two squads was an 86-62 loss for Delaware.
- Hofstra has won the last six straight matchups.
- Delaware's last win came on Jan. 15, 2021 when the Hens topped the Pride 74-56 at home.
