Cousins Garners CAA Player of the Week Honors

RICHMOND, Va. – The University of Delaware women's basketball senior guard Tara Cousins was named the Coastal Athletic Association (CAA) Player of the Week, announced by league officials Monday afternoon. This is the first player of the week accolade for the Washington, D.C. native.
Cousins led the Blue Hens to a 2-0 week after averaging 23.0 points, 6.5 rebounds, 2.0 assists and 1.0 steals per game shooting 63.0 percent (17-of-27) from the field, 60.0 percent (9-of-15) from long range and 75.0 percent (3-of-5) from the free throw line. Cousins had a spectacular week for the Blue & Gold, setting a new career-high with 23 points against American (Nov. 29), and tying said career high against Duquesne on Sunday (Dec. 3). Against the Eagles, she pulled down a career-best nine rebounds to go with two steals in the 68-58 road win. At Duquesne, Cousins added four rebounds, two assists and two steals to her stat line to help Delaware capture the dominating the 74-57 victory over the Dukes, extend the winning streak to three games.
The senior guard has gotten off to a hot start this season. Cousins is averaging 17.9 points, 4.7 rebounds, 2.0 assists and 1.6 steals per contest while shooting 51.5 percent (50-of-97) shooting from the field and 42.3 percent (22-of-52) from three-point territory. In particular, Cousins started to heat up over the last five games. She has scored 20 or more points in four of the last five games, averaging 21.2 points per game, shooting 56.7 percent from the field and 48.7 percent from deep during the stretch.
Cousins leads the conference in three-point field goal percentage, three-point field goals made and three-point field goals per game (3.1) while ranking second in points per game and points (125), fifth in minutes per game (33.1), sixth in field goal percentage and tied for ninth in steals per game. Among the national leaders, Cousins ranks 16th in three pointers per game and 38th in three pointers.
