Men’s Basketball Stuns Xavier for Program’s First-Ever BIG EAST Win

CINCINNATI – Fifth-year guard Jalun Trent took control Tuesday evening and led the University of Delaware men's basketball team to an impressive 87-80 win at Xavier. The win marked the first-ever win over a BIG EAST team.

HEN HIGHLIGHTS

Delaware overcame a first-half 10-point deficit.
The Hens shot 50-percent overall and 50-percent from three-point land.
Trent finished with a career-best 27 points on a 10-of-16 shooting performance. He led the Hens in points, rebounds (7), and assists (6). The six assists tie his best performance.
Jyáre Davis quietly put up 19 points on an 8-of-19 night.
Cavan Reilly tallied 17 points going 5-of-9, including 5-of-7 from deep.
Christian Ray was a jack of all trades Tuesday, as he recorded seven rebounds, six points, and four steals. The four steals tie his career best.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Hens hung around until the home team pulled ahead 26-16 with 12:13 left in the first. Delaware responded with a 13-2 run over 4:07 to take the lead 32-28. Xavier outpaced the Hens 9-4 into the break for a 41-38 lead.
The Blue & Gold opened the second frame with a 10-4 advantage to force a timeout by the Musketeers with 16:30 left in the frame. Delaware posted a 9-0 run over a 1:42 span to pull ahead 65-58. The Hens would take their largest lead of the game by hitting eight of nine straight field goals to go up 74-64. Xavier could only cut the deficit to seven.
