Baseball's Offense Breaks Out in 22-11 Rout of UMBC

"We needed that win after a tough weekend," head coach Greg Mamula said. "We needed to get some confidence and we accomplished that."
Delaware fell down 5-0 before its offense began to flow. An Aidan Kane three-run homer in the rain started the festivities in the third inning, and before long, Owen Petrich smashed a three-run homer, the first of his career, to make it a 7-5 game.
Petrich recorded his first career hit and home run in what was a 3-for-4, four-RBI effort.
"Definitely had to bounce back after last weekend," Petrich said. "We did just that, our bats were hot today."
Andrew Amato smoked a grand slam off the Hannah Stadium scoreboard to make the score 13-6. Amato also had four RBIs in the win, extending his total to six on the season. Joining Amato and Petrich with 4+ RBIs were Joey Loynd, who drove in five as part of a 5-for-6 afternoon, and Kane, who went 2-for-4 with four RBIs.
The 22 runs were the most Delaware has scored since Mar. 22, 2016, when it beat La Salle 22-1 in Newark. All but one of Delaware's starters recorded a hit in the game, and all but one starter recorded an RBI.
Dan Frake was the winning pitcher in the victory, which was Coach Mamula's first as head coach at Delaware.
The Blue Hens embark on a three-game series at Stetson this weekend with the first game coming on Friday at 6:30 p.m.
