HAMPTON, Va. - Delaware men's swimming & diving currently sits in third place with 98 points after a historic opening night of the CAA Championships. Delaware set an all-time CAA, CAA Championship Meet, and Delaware program record in the 200 medley relay to highlight the first day festivities. The squad of Gavin Currie, Toni Sabev, Simeon Sabev, and Matvei Namakonov finished with a time of 1:24.92 to claim the championship. It was Delaware's first conference relay championship since winning the 400-free in 2011, and their second ever 200 medley relay conference championship. The quartet joined Hans Gillan, Ross Buckwalter, Michael Wodoslawsky, and Grady Carter, who took the title with a time of 1:28.88 in 2010. Toni Sabev's split of 22.63 is also the fifth fastest time in NCAA history history.
Andrew Taylor set the Delaware program record in the 200-free as the lead in the 800 freestyle relay, as he finished with a time of 1:38.18. Ryan Polino, Jacob Replogle, and Gavin Currie teamed up to finish in third place with a time of 6:33.96, also a new Delaware program record. In the 1-meter dive, Kevin Siegfried, in his first CAA Championship, finished with a score of 279.10 to finish in fifth place, while Philip Townsend finished just behind in sixth with a total of 252.30.
