Loynd Named to Preseason All-CAA Team, Three Blue Hens Earn Honorable Mentions

RICHMOND, Va. – Infielder Joey Loynd was named to the preseason All-CAA team, while infielders Dan Covino and JJ Freeman and designated hitter Bryce Greenly were honorable mentions, the league announced on Wednesday.
Loynd, a member of the All-CAA First Team in 2022, was named following a season where he slashed .298/.383/.508 with eight home runs and a team-leading 45 RBIs and finished second in home runs, slugging and OPS.
Covino, a part of the Perfect Game/Rawlings preseason All-CAA roster, earns an honorable mention after his great season at Central Connecticut State in 2022. Covino hit .328/.441/.571 with nine home runs and 59 RBIs, finishing the year with a 1.020 OPS.
Freeman was one of two players to start all 51 games last season and led the team with nine home runs, ranked second with 40 runs scored and 13 doubles, and was third with 36 RBIs.
Greenly, who appeared in both the field and on the mound in 2022, tied for the team and conference lead with five triples and ranked second on the team with a .316 batting average and 61 hits. In addition, in seven appearances on the mound, Greenly pitched to a 1.80 ERA in 10 innings, striking out 11.
Delaware was picked to finish eighth of 11 teams in the preseason poll.
The Hens open the season in Oxford, Miss., taking on defending national champion Ole Miss in a three-game series.
