Second Half Run Edges No. 9/10/16 Johns Hopkins over Blue Hens

BALTIMORE, Md. – Delaware men's lacrosse drops its final road non-conference game against No. 9/10/16 Johns Hopkins 12-10 on Sunday night at Homewood Field.
With the loss, the Blue Hens fall to 5-3 overall on the season, while the Blue Jays improve to 7-3.
After Johns Hopkins took a 5-1 lead a minute into the second quarter, the Blue Hens went on a 5-0 run to take a 6-5 lead into the half. The run was started by Tye Kurtz, scoring his second goal of the game with less than eight minutes in the quarter. JP Ward, Owen Grant, who scored a nearly 65-yard goal on an empty net, and Nick Jessen added goals to tie the game. Kurtz ended the run, and the half, with a goal with less than a minute to play in the half, scoring his 30th goal of the season.
The Blue Hens run continued as they opened the third quarter with three unanswered goals. Mike Robinson and Jason Kolar got the rallied started with goals less than two minutes into the third quarter. Kurtz finished the rally with his fourth goal of the game with less than nine minutes in the quarter.
Following Kurtz's goal, the Blue Jays answered less than a minute later to cut the Blue Hens' lead to 9-6. That goal sparked a 7-0 run that lasted until the 56th minute of the fourth quarter. Kurtz added a man-up goal with less than a minute to go in the fourth quarter. While the goal didn't spark a late run for the Blue Hens, it was
Kurtz' 18th career man-up goal of his career, tying Curtis Dickson for the most in program history.
On the day, the Blue Jays out-shot the Blue Hens 46-28, including a 31-16 shots-on-goal advantage.
Individually, the Blue Hens were led by Kurtz, who had five goals and two assists. Matt Kilkeary started in net, and was credited with the decision. He tied his career high with 19 saves, and allowed 12 goals.
UD continues conference play with a road game against Hofstra on Saturday, March 25 at 3 p.m.
