Sgambelluri, McFolling-Young Headlines as Track & Field Compete at Larry Ellis Invitational

PRINCETON, N.J. – The University of Delaware track & field team headed to Princeton, N.J. to compete in the two-day Larry Ellis Invitational, hosted by Princeton University from Weaver Stadium on Apr. 14-15. The Blue Hen put together four season-best times/marks and six personal-best times/marks with Nina Sgambelluri and Myrissa McFolling-Young leading the charge before the two-day meet was called due to weather conditions.
Alicia Lehman-Woodyard got day one started in the long jump, where she set a season-best mark of 5.52m in her second jump attempt, finishing the event in eighth place. Lehman-Woodyard also saw action in the 100m hurdles on Saturday and finished the race in a season-best time of 15.25 (12th place).
Sarah Daniels opened the track portion Friday night in the 3000m steeplechase being the lone Blue Hen competing in the event. Daniels ended up setting a shiny new PR time of 10:39.48, beating out her pervious time of 10:42.71 she set last season that still sits in third in the record books.
Sgambelluri, Hannah Lindgren and Danielle Eshelman headlined the Blue Hens in the 5000m run to close out day one. Sgambelluri turned on the jets and captured her first-ever collegiate win with a PR time of 17:07.24. Lindgren was right behind Sgambelluri crossing the finish line in a personal-best time of 17:12.72 for a second place finish. Eshelman ran the race for the first time in her career and posted a time of 18:09.88 (17th place). Sgambelluri's and Lingren's time sits eighth and 10th, respectively, in the program history books.
McFolling-Young, Emily Eckard and Bethany Clement kickstarted day two on Saturday for the Blue Hens in the discus. McFolling-Young captured victory after throwing 52.21 in her first attempt. The shining moment came at the hands of Eckard, as she launched one for a PR mark of 42.52m to finish in fifth place. Eckard's throw sits ninth in program history. Clement followed with an eighth place finish after throwing the discus 41.60m.
The 400m race and the triple jump were the last two events that were fortunate to complete and Halima Scott and Jahnia Hodge did not disappoint. Scott crossed the 400m finish line first with a season-best time of 54.01 while Hodge set a new personal-best in the triple jump after flying through the air for a mark of 11.51m (fifth place). Hodge's mark now sits tied for eighth in the history books.
The 4x100 relay squad of Kamylin Padgham, Taylor Johnson, Shylehn Ebuenga-Smith and Scott ran a season-best time of 46.97 to finish in first place in heat two and second place overall.
