Men’s Golf Recognized By GCAA for Academic Achievements

NEWARK, Del. – The University of Delaware men's golf team had a quartet of student-athletes named All-American Scholars by the Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA). Additionally, the Blue Hens earned a GCAA Outstanding Team Academic Award and were one of 54 teams across Division I to earn the President's Special Recognition for having a team GPA of 3.50 or better.
Sahasawat Ariyachatvakin is coming off a strong 2022-23 season in which he earned All-CAA Second Team honors, leading the Blue Hens with a 72.37 stroke average. He had three top-10 finishes on the season, highlighted by a tie for third at the Golfweek/AGT Intercollegiate where he finished at 6-under par.
Michal Bargenda completed his collegiate career with a 74.63 stroke average across nine tournaments. He finished tied for sixth at the Ironwood Collegiate Classic in the fall after carding a 4-under par 68 in the final round. Bargenda again finished strong at the CAA Championship with a 5-under par 67 on the final day, earning a tie for 13th.
Xiong Da competed in seven tournaments last season as a sophomore, finishing with a 74.63 stroke average. He had six rounds of even par or better, including a season-best 2-under par 69 in the second round at the Bash at the Beach.
Jack Halleron ranked fourth on the team with a 74.21 stroke average in eight tournaments. His best tournament of the year came in the CAA Championship where he tied for ninth with a three-round score of 2-over par, including a season-best 3-under par 69 in the second round.
To be eligible for GCAA All-America Scholar nomination, an individual must be a sophomore, junior or senior both academically and athletically in NCAA Division I, II, III, and NAIA, or receiving their Associate's Degree and in their last year of athletic eligibility in the NJCAA. In addition, they must participate in 50% of their team's competitive rounds, have a stroke average under 76.0 in NCAA Division I, under 78.0 in NCAA Division II, under 79.0 in NCAA Division III, under 78.0 in NAIA, and under 77.0 in NJCAA, and maintain a minimum cumulative career grade-point average of 3.2. A recipient must also be of high moral character and be in good standing at their college or university.
