NEWARK, Del. - With the return of key players and having acquired young talent, the University of Delaware men's soccer program looks to make some noise in year two of the Tommy McMenemy era.
The Blue Hens return 18 student-athletes from a season ago, including notables Sam Donnellan and Adam Vik.
Donnellan will be a key player offensively after his stellar season last year. He started in all 17 games and received All-CAA Second-Team and CAA All-Rookie Team honors. Donnellan led the Blue Hens with eight goals, tying the conference lead by a freshman and was just one of nine rookies in the NCAA with at least eight goals on the season.
Vik started in goal and played every minute of all 17 games last season. He tied for second in the CAA with 61 saves, recorded three shutouts, and was a National Team of the Week honor roll selection by Top Drawer Soccer.
The team added eight newcomers to the roster, including Luke Chatten, Thaddeus Glasser, T.J. Hastings, Richard Monath, Joshua Rippon, Jan Schroeder, Sean Smith, and Ethan Williams.
Throughout their high school careers as a whole, the rookies earned three Regional All-American honors, three Player of the Year recognitions and three state championship appearances. Half were members of the National Honors Society, while one was recognized as an academic All-American and another received a Scholar of the Year award.
