Volleyball Heads to UTSA Tournament

NEWARK, Del. - University of Delaware's volleyball team will play their second tournament of the season when they travel to San Antonio, Texas to face Tarleton State, UTSA, and Lamar on Sept. 1 and Sept. 2, 2023.

2023 Highlights

Delaware is 3-0 for the first time since the 2016 season after defeating Loyola (Md.), Niagara, and Robert Morris at the Blue Hen Invitational to begin the season.
Ezgi Basaranlar was named Tournament MVP, while Kirah Johnson was named to the All-Tournament team.
Against Loyola (Md.), Lani Mason had a game-high 14 kills and hit .520, while Johnson had 11 kills and hit .588 with five blocks, and Asia Murray, making her collegiate debut, had nine blocks. Ezgi Basaranlar had 38 assists, and Eileen Gex had 15 digs.
Savannah Seemans had 14 kills against Niagara and hit .379 to lead Delaware to a sweep. Basaranlar had 35 assists.
Against Robert Morris, Mason had 20 kills and and 12 digs, Johnson had 12 kills and a .522 hitting percentage, and Madelyn Grunza had 10 kills and hit .381, Gex had 18 digs, and Basaranlar had 41 assists.

Blue Hen Invitational Stats

Mason finished with 42 kills, 3.82 kills per set, a .314 hitting percentage, 36 digs, 3.27 digs per set, and seven blocks.
Gex had 43 digs and 3.91 digs per set.
Basaranlar finished with 114 assists, 10.36 assists per set, 25 digs, 2.27 digs per set, and 14 blocks.
Johnson finished with 32 kills, 2.91 kills per set, a .574 hitting percentage, and 14 blocks.
Murray finished with 12 kills, a .348 hitting percentage, and 18 blocks.
Grunza finished with 23 kills and seven blocks.
Seemans finished with 29 kills, 2.64 kills per set, 28 digs, and 2.55 digs per set.

CAA Awards

Asia Murray was named Co-Rookie of the Week on August 28.
