NEWARK, Del. – The University of Delaware men's golf team opens up its 2022-23 season on Sunday with the first two rounds of the Red Bandana Invitational at Turning Stone. The two-day, three-round tournament is hosted by Boston College and is being played at Turning Stone Resort in Verona, New York.
The Blue Hens are looking to build off of a strong season last year that saw the squad record eight top-10 finishes in its 10 tournaments, including placing in the top five on six occasions. UD had 10 team rounds at even-par or better, highlighted by a 10-under par in the final round of the White Sands Bahamas Invitational.
Delaware returns each of its five top scorers from a year ago, led by Sparky Ariyachatvakin who played in all 10 team tournaments, as well as taking part in the PGA WORKS Men's Individual. He recorded a 72.3 stroke average across three rounds and had four top-10 finishes on the year.
Also returning for the Blue & Gold is Casper Nerpin who had a 72.6 scoring average in 30 rounds across all 10 tournaments. Owen Manchester (74.1, 15 rounds), Jack Halleron (74.2, 24 rounds) and Egor Zubov (74.2, 21 rounds) rounded out the top five scorers from last season.
The Blue Hens welcomed four newcomers to the squad this fall as Arsit Areephun, Jeffrey Homer, Matthew Homer and Michael Najburg will all look to make an immediate impact in the lineup.
Director of Golf Patty Post has put together a challenging schedule for the 2023-24 season. The Blue & Gold will play in 11 total tournaments, competing five times this fall before taking part in six events next spring including the 2024 CAA Championships.
