Quartet of Blue Hens Shines As Cross Country Competes At 49th Annual Paul Short Run

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The University of Delaware cross country traveled to Bethlehem, Pa. to compete at the 49th annual Paul Short Run Saturday morning from Goodman Campus Cross Country Course. Running the Gold 6K course race for the first time since the 2019 season, the outing was headlined by a quartet of Blue Hens setting new personal-best times.

The Blue Hens will return to the First State and assume its hosting duties Friday, Oct. 13 at the annual Delaware Invitational from White Clay Creek State Park in Newark, Del. The Women's 6K race is slated to start at 9:30 a.m. and the Men's 8K race will follow at 10:20 a.m.

Today's included: doing well being conservative for the first mile, packing together and finishing strong," said head coach Kenyetta Iyevbele. "Racing among the top 40 in the region is great preparation for the NCAA Regional meet come November. Moving forward to prep for the home meet and championship season, we'd like to see improvements in our overall confidence and our ability to compete on the big stage. Go Hens!
- As a team, Delaware racked up 1,035 points to finish in 41st place.
- Danielle Eshelman was the first Blue Hen to cross the finish line with a PB time of 22:19.5 to place 175th overall. The Pittsburgh, Pa. native obliterated her previous PB time of 23:41.7, one that she set last year at Penn State National Open.
- Marissa Dailey followed behind Eshelman, also posting a PB time of 22:32.4 to capture 203rd place. The Phoenix, Md. native erased her previous PB time of 23:25.5, a time that she set two seasons ago at the Paul Short Run Brown 6K race.
- Lindsey Volkman (PB-22:36.1, 218th place), Nicole Re (22:57.0, 251st place) and Molly Lashley (23:17.7, 294th place) rounded out the Blue Hens' scoring five. Volkman's previous PB time of 23:45.5 was set last season at the Paul Short Run Brown 6K race.
- Utah Valley took the top spot among the field of 44 teams with 393 runners by a score of 77.
- Wake Forest (129), Boston University (176), Penn State (182) and Quinnipiac (257) followed in respective order.
- Adding to the mix with strong performances were:
- Tiffany Herrera, 23:42.3, 337th overall
- Leah Clear, PB-23:45.0, 340th overall
- Stephanie Herrera, 24:34.9, 368th overall
- This is the first time since 2019 the Blue Hens ran the highly competitive Gold 6K race.
