New Year, New Season As Women’s Basketball Is Ready To Open CAA Play Against Northeastern And Hampton

BOSTON, Mass. – It's a new year and a new season which means the University of Delaware is poised for new opportunities as CAA play starts Friday, Jan. 5. The Blue Hens will head to Boston, Mass. to face Northeastern inside Cabot Center where tipoff is slated for 7 p.m. and will be featured as part of FloSports' Live-To-Social initiative.
The game will be streamed on the FloHoops YouTube channel, Twitter/X account and Facebook page free of charge for viewers and will be broadcast on FloHoops.
After Friday's matchup, the Blue Hens will return to the First State Sunday, Jan. 7 and will open its CAA home slate against Hampton inside Bob Carpenter Center. Tipoff is set for 2 p.m. and will be broadcast simultaneously on FloHoops and Delmarva Sports Network.

ABOUT THE HENS
- The last time out for Delaware was on New Year's Eve where the Blue Hens fell 88-58 to the visiting Harvard.
- Although the winning drought was extended to five games, the Blue Hens were paced by a trio of double-digit scorers in Klarke Sconiers, Sydney Boone and Ande'a Cherisier who poured in 15, 14 and 13 points respectively.
- Around the nation, Cousins ranks 39th in three-pointers per game (2.75) and 54th in three-point attempts (90) and three-pointers made (33). Chloe Wilson ranks 37th in free throws made (57) and 40th in free throw attempts (73). As a unit, Delaware ranks 69th in defensive rebounds per game (27.6).
- Over the last five seasons, the Blue Hens hold a 2-2 mark in conference openers while head coach Sarah Jenkins will be looking for her first conference-opening win since she has been at the helm of the program.
- Northeastern's last time out was on Dec. 22, 2023 against Boston University.
- The Huskies dropped a heartbreaking 83-80 overtime decision to the Terriers inside the Cabot Center.
- Northeastern was paced by Derin Erdogan, who tallied a team-high 21 points. Deja Bristol followed behind with 14 points and six rebounds.
- The Huskies were picked to finish third in the CAA Preseason Poll with two first-place votes. Derin Erdogan and Gemima Motema both earned All-CAA Preseason honors, where Erdogan was tabbed to the First Team, and Motema garnered Second Team accolades.
- Last postseason, Northeastern advanced to the CAA semifinals after rolling past Stony Brook 85-68 but then fell to the eventual champions Monmouth 73-60.
- This will serve as the 66th all-time meeting, 58th meeting in conference play and the first time head coaches Jenkins and Priscilla Edwards-Llyod will be meeting since taking the reigns of their respective programs.
- The Blue Hens hold the 47-18 all-time record while sporting a 17-13 mark in Boston.
- Both teams are entering Friday's matchup suffering a five-game losing streak.
- Delaware and Northeastern played against one another twice last season, where they both took wins on their respective home court.
- The last time out was Feb. 24, 2023 in Boston where the Blue Hens fell 70-61. Sconiers and Rebecca Demeke both poured in 11 points off the bench. Tara Cousins (eight rebounds), Michelle Ojo (seven rebounds, three steals) and Nakiyah Mays-Prince (two steals) all saw action.
- The last time Delaware captured victory inside Cabot Center was during the 2021-22 season (Feb. 11, 2022), where the Blue Hens walked away with the narrow 66-63 win, headlined by Cousins' game-winning jumper with 18 seconds remaining.
- After Friday's matchup, the next time Delaware and Northeastern will meet will be on Friday, Jan. 26 inside Bob Carpenter Center where the opening tip is scheduled for 7 p.m.

ABOUT THE HENS
- Delaware opened CAA play Friday evening (Jan. 5) at Northeastern and was able to snap its five game losing streak by capturing a dominating 86-73 victory over the Huskies.
- The Blue Hens were led by a trio of double-digit scorers in Chloe Wilson, Sydney Boone and Michelle Ojo.
- Wilson posted her third double-double on the season, 14th of her career, with 21 points and 10 rebounds.
- Boone followed with 16 points while Ojo was the spark plug off the bench and chipped in 15 points.
- Hampton opened CAA play on Friday, Jan. 5 against Drexel inside Daskalakis Athletic Center in Philadelphia.
- The Pirates saw its losing streak extend to 11 games after falling to the Dragons 72-57. Hampton was paced by a 26-point performance by Camryn Hill.
- Hampton was selected to finish 13th in the conference according to the preseason coaches poll.
- This will be the third time in program history that the Blue Hens and the Pirates will be meeting and the first time Delaware will welcome Hampton to the Bob Carpenter Center.
- The Pirates hold a 2-0 record including bouncing out the Blue Hens in the conference's second-round matchup, 78-67, on Mar. 9, 2023 inside SECU Arena. Sconiers and Ojo both scored in double digits, 14 and 13 points, respectively, in the season-ending loss.
