Wilson Named to Women’s Basketball Preseason All-CAA Team; Cherisier, Cousins Earn Honorable Mention

RICHMOND, Va. – The Coastal Athletic Association (CAA) released its 2024-25 women's basketball preseason coaches' poll and All-CAA team Friday afternoon, ahead of its annual virtual media day. Graduate student Chloe Wilson earned a spot on the Preseason All-CAA Second Team while classmate Tara Cousins and sophomore Ande'a Cherisier received honorable mention recognition. In their final season in the CAA, the Blue Hens were picked to finish sixth, collecting 119 votes in the preseason poll.
Wilson made an instant impact in her first year with the Blue Hens, starting 27 of 30 games. The Freeport, N.Y. native averaged 11.5 points, 6.0 rebounds, 1.5 assists, and 1.2 steals per game. She posted three 20+ point performances, including a season-high 23 points at Towson (Feb. 25). Wilson recorded double-digit rebounds in six games, matching her career-high with 15 boards in a win over Towson (Jan. 28). She also tallied four double-doubles (15 for her career) and scored in double figures 17 times.
Cherisier, from Baltimore, Md., shined in her first collegiate season, starting 13 of 29 games and earning CAA All-Rookie Team honors. She averaged 9.1 points and 4.6 rebounds per game and scored in double figures 12 times, with a career-high 21 points against Towson (Jan. 28), fueled by 11-of-12 free throws. In CAA play, she averaged 10.7 points and 4.8 rebounds while shooting 52.7% from the field. Cherisier also earned a CAA Rookie of the Week award during the season.
Cousins, the only remaining member of Delaware's 2021-22 CAA championship team, delivered a career-best season. The Washington, D.C. native started 29 of 30 games, averaging 10.3 points, 3.1 rebounds, and 2.1 assists. Cousins had five 20+ point games, including back-to-back 23-point efforts at American (Nov. 29) and Duquesne (Dec. 3). She also made six three-pointers in a game, tying for third in program history. Cousins earned CAA Player of the Week honors once during the season.
North Carolina A&T was picked to win the conference, receiving 166 votes (11 first-place votes). Drexel followed with 148 votes, while Towson was projected third with 134. Charleston and William & Mary tied for fourth (124 votes), with Delaware rounding out the top six. Elon (86), Campbell (76), CAA Tournament finalist Stony Brook (70), Monmouth (65), UNCW (59), Hofstra (50), Northeastern (33) and Hampton were elected to finish seventh through 14th, respectively.
Delaware's 54th season will tip-off on the road in the nation's capital on Nov. 4 against George Washington. The Blue Hens will open its home slate on Tuesday, Nov. 12 by welcoming Temple inside the Bob Carpenter Center. Conference play begins Friday, Jan. 3 on the road against defending champion Drexel. Immediately following the road trip, the Blue Hens will host Hofstra (Jan. 5) and North Carolina A&T (Jan. 10) in a two-game homestand. All 14 teams will compete in the 2024 CAA Women's Basketball Championship, set for Mar. 12-16 at the Entertainment & Sports Arena in Washington, D.C. FloCollege will stream the first four days, with CBS Sports Network airing the championship game.
