Field Hockey Uses Late Surge to Defeat Columbia in Overtime, 2-1

NEW YORK – University of Delaware field hockey used a late surge and pair of Iris Bekker goals to defeat Columbia 2-1 in overtime Sunday afternoon. The Blue Hens move to 7-8 overall with the Lions dropping to 3-9.

HEN HIGHLIGHTS

Bekker scored a pair of clutch goals, one as time expired and the other in overtime.
Lily Cosner, Janne Stoetzer, and Lulu Fulton all tallied one assist each.
Cecile van Eijck made a pair of saves for her seventh win of the season.
Delaware won the penalty corner margin 8-1.

HOW IT HAPPENED

After a scoreless first frame, Columbia struck in the second stanza to take the 1-0 lead.
With two seconds remaining in regulation, UD earned a penalty corner that saw Bekker tally her first goal as a Hen off an insert from Cosner and stop by Stoetzer.
With its second penalty corner of the extra period, Delaware pulled out some trickery as Fulton fed Bekker for her second score of the game.
