Seemans Records 1000th Career Kill as Volleyball Completes Weekend Sweep of Northeastern

NEWARK, Del. - University of Delaware volleyball's Savannah Seemans recorded her 1,000th career kill during the Blue Hens' straight-set victory (25-23, 25-9, 25-23) over Northeastern on Oct. 20, 2024. The win completed a big weekend sweep of the Huskies, and put Delaware in third place in the CAA standings.Â

HEN HIGHLIGHTSÂ
- Raina Hughes and Anna Logan Gillens each had team-highs in kills with 12. Hughes hit .500 for the match.
- Kirah Johnson hit .381 with 11 kills and three blocks.Â
- Lily Rogers had 36 assists, six digs, two kills, and a block.
- Gha'Naye Whitfield-Moss hit .538 with eight kills.Â
- Seeman recorded seven kills and 10 digs.Â
- Cadence Nguyen had nine digs, four aces, and four assists.Â
- Hannah Wright had seven digs.
HOW IT HAPPENED
FIRST SET
- Northeastern controlled much of the first set, taking their largest lead at 12-8 and still leading 17-14.
- The Huskies still maintained a 22-19 lead, but after a Blue Hen timeout, Delaware scored six of the final seven points to come back and win. Seemans had three kills in the stretch run.
- Seemans, Hughes, and Whitfield-Moss each had four kills in the set, and Rogers had 13 assists.Â
- Delaware dominated the second set, and used an 11-0 run to take an 18-6 lead. Johnson had four kills in the run, and Nguyen had two aces.Â
- Gillens then had three kills during Delaware's final five points of the set to take a 2-0 lead.Â
- Gillens had six kills in the set, and Hughes had five. Delaware hit .581 in the second and held Northeastern to a .000 hitting percentage.Â
- Set three was the closest of the day, with 11 ties and five lead changes. Delaware finally began to pull away after an error and two kills by Hughes made it 17-15, then five straight points put UD up 22-17.
- Seemans' 1,000th career kill put Delaware up 24-20, then Johnson ended the match with a kill.Â
MATCH NOTES
- Delaware has won seven straight matches against Northeastern, and have outscored them 18-2 in set victories over that span.Â
- Delaware has won 12 of their last 13 matches at home dating back to last season.Â
- Seemans now has 1,000 career kills to go with 1,219 career digs. She also has recorded at least 10 digs in seven of Delaware's last eight matches.Â
- Rogers continued to shine with 36 more assists, putting her at 1,398 for her career. She has averaged 11.12 assists per set over Delaware's last nine matches.
- Johnson now has 384 career blocks.Â
- Hughes again had another efficient game, and recorded her first 10-kill game of the season with a .500 hitting percentage or better. She is hitting .409 with 55 kills in her last six matches and 21 sets.Â
- Whitfield-Moss has hit at least .500 in all four career games she has played against Northeastern. For her career, she is hitting .536 with 36 kills in 12Â sets against the Huskies.Â
- Wright has had an ace in four consecutive matches, also done twice in 2022.Â
- Delaware's 11-0 run in the second set marked the second run this weekend that was 10 or better, as they had a 10-0 in yesterday's third set. It was their longest run of the season and their longest since Sept. 2, 2023 against Lamar.Â
