Volleyball Completes Reverse Sweep Over Hofstra, Snaps The Pride's Win Streak

HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. - University of Delaware volleyball completed a reverse sweep of Hofstra (23-25, 25-21, 27-25. 25-23,16-14) to snap The Pride's nine-match win streak. The win puts Delaware at 8-3 in CAA play, one game behind Hofstra for first place.

HEN HIGHLIGHTS
- Anna Logan Gillens had a match-best 26 kills while hitting .283 with four blocks and five digs.
- Lily Rogers recorded 57 assists and 20 digs.
- Kirah Johnson had 20 kills with a .313 hitting percentage and nine blocks.
- Savannah Seemans recorded 20 digs, four blocks, and seven kills.
- Gha'Naye Whitfield-Moss had 11 kills and four blocks.
- Raina Hughes had four blocks and three kills.
- Cadence Nguyen recorded 22 digs and five assists.
- Hannah Wright had 17 digs.
- Taylor Holly had 10 digs.
HOW IT HAPPENED
FIRST SET
- Three kills by Gillens put Delaware up 6-4, and they extended their lead to 11-7 after a kill by Johnson.
- Hofstra tied the set at 13, but Delaware reclaimed the lead and went up 22-20 after a kill by Gillens. Hofstra, though, scored five of the last six points of the set.
- Gillens had six kills in the opening set.
- A 6-0 run out Delaware ahead 9-5 in the second, with Gillens recording three kills and a block during the run. Hofstra then scored five straight to go back up a point.
- The Pride pulled ahead at 17-12, but Delaware strung together a rally to get to 22-19. Hofstra was able to hang on to go up 2-0.
- Gillens had another six kills in the set, and Johnson added five. Rogers recorded 12 assists and six digs.
- Delaware's comeback began with four straight kills to begin the third, with three coming from Johnson. Hofstra took their first lead at 10-9, and eventually led 19-15.
- The Blue Hens began to chip away, but Hofstra took a 24-21 lead, one-point away from securing a match victory. Four straight points on kills by Seemans, Johnson, and Gillens and a block from Gillens and Johnson put Delaware ahead. Gillens then had the final two points of the set with two kills to stave off a loss and give UD a set victory.
- Gillens had eight kills in the set, and Johnson added five more. Rogers had 14 assists and Nguyen had six digs.
- Hofstra tried to take control of the set by taking a 13-8, 16-11, and 20-15 lead.
- Four straight points by Delaware, keyed by a kill from Dylan Norris, got UD back within a point. Seemans tied the score with a kill at 21, an error put Delaware ahead, and Johnson gave UD a 24-21 lead. Another Hofstra error ended the set and sent the match to a deciding fifth.
- Whitfield-Moss and Johnson each had four kills in the set, and Rogers had 14 assists. Nguyen had seven digs.
- Delaware went up 4-2 after two kills by Johnson and a kill from Gillens, and maintained a 5-4 lead
- Hofstra went on a 7-0 to lead 11-5, and held a 12-6 lead. UD got it going with three straight points to cut it down to 12-9, then scored four more on kills by Seemans and Johnson and two errors by Hofstra to tie the score at 13. Hofstra held set point, but the Blue Hens scored the last three points on consecutive kills from Seemans, Johnson, and Gillens to complete their comeback.
- Johnson had four kills in the final set, with Rogers getting eight assists.
MATCH NOTES
- Delaware reverse swept Hofstra for the second straight year, also doing so at home last season on Oct. 21.
- Rogers' 57 assists were a season-best and her most since having 59 on Feb. 26, 2021 against Temple. It was also her third career 50-assist game, also doing so on Sept. 15 this season against Howard. She is at 1,455 assists for her career and 703 for the season.
- Rogers became the first Delaware player with at least 50 assists and 20 digs in a match since Courtnie Roberts on Oct. 12, 2018 against Northeastern. She is also the second CAA player with at least 50 assists in 20 digs in a match this season, joining Torri Henry of Stony Brook (51 assists, 24 digs on Sept. 8 against Colgate).
- Gillens' 26 kills were a career-best, and the most by a Delaware player since Lani Mason had 30 against William & Mary on Nov. 6, 2022. It was also the first time a Delaware player had at least 25 kills and a .280 hitting percentage since Mason had 27 kills and hit .309 against UNCW on Oct. 30, 2022.
- Johnson's 20 kills were a career high. She became the first Delaware player this season with at least 20 kills in a match and a .300 hitting percentage. Mason did so twice last season.
- Johnson is also now at 393 career blocks, moving into seventh most in program history. She is seven away from becoming the sixth player in program history with 400 career blocks.
- Seemans had her third 20-dig game of the season, also doing it against Michigan on August 30 and UNCW on Oct. 6.
- Nugyen recorded her second career and second 20-dig game this season, last doing so in the season opener against Michigan (24). She has averaged 4.37 digs per set over her last five matches.
- Wright's 17 digs were a career-best.
