SPARKS, Md. - The University of Delaware Head Women's Lacrosse Coach Amy Altig will serve as co-head coach of the USA Select U18 Girls team at the Brogden Cup this weekend. Mount St. Mary's head coach Lauren Skellchock and Altig were announced as co-head coaches and appointed their roster earlier in the year.
"I'm extremely excited to be sharing the sideline with an amazing staff and an incredible U18 USA squad," Altig said. "The Brogden Cup is a great opportunity for us to compete against Team Ontario and the Haudenosaunee Nationals. This event will showcase the unbelievable talent coming up through our National Team programs. It will be a great weekend for lacrosse, and I'm honored to be part of it!"
After a few U18 team practices and bonding events, Altig and Skellchock will meet the team alongside assistants Katie Detwiler and Jessy Morgan at the USA Lacrosse headquarters in Sparks, Md. for the tournament kickoff on Thursday, Oct. 25.
The Brogden Cup is one of the most recognized tournament events for high-school lacrosse players. Hosted on Tierney Field at the USA Lacrosse headquarters, U16 and U18 girls and boys teams will compete against Team Ontario and the Haudenosaunee Nationals throughout the weekend.
A new addition to the tournament in 2024 is the inclusion of Sekai Youth Lacrosse from Japan. The Team Ontario, Haudenosaunee Nationals, and USA girls teams will play in friendly exhibitions with Sekai Youth Lacrosse in between matches.
The USA Select U18 girls roster features players from all over the country. From California, Utah, and Florida to Long Island, Maryland, and Pennsylvania, this team has it all. The majority of girls on the roster are enjoying their final season of high school play before joining college teams. With impressive program commitments from Syracuse, Stanford, Duke, UNC, and others, the goal of the tournament is to provide developmental experiences for these athletes to bring to collegiate play with them.
Altig's weekend kicks off at 10 a.m. on Friday Oct. 25 as the USA Select U18 Girls team takes on Team Ontario. Her squad will play a total of four games with an additional exhibition during the event.
