NEWARK, Del. – University of Delaware Women's Lacrosse Head Coach Amy Altig has announced the promotion of Kara Nakrasius to associate head coach. Nakrasius joined the UD program in August 2022 and has spent the past three seasons overseeing UD's efforts on defense and at the draw.
"I am thrilled for Kara; she's an unbelievable coach but an even more impressive human who continues to make us all better each day," Altig said. "She pours everything she has into all facets of our program, from recruiting, to leadership, to defensive and draw coordinator. There isn't a piece of this program that Kara hasn't had an impact on. Her knowledge of the game will be a huge asset as we shift into the ASUN conference, one we hope to be very competitive in. Kara's defenses and draws will be vital to our success moving forward and this title change comes at an amazing time for our program. Go Hens!"
Since arriving in Newark, Nakrasius has led Delaware defensive unit to new heights. In 2025, the Blue Hens led the CAA and ranked eighth nationally in caused turnovers per game (11.19) after ranking ninth in 2024 (10.44). The UD defense held opponents to 160 total goals in 2024, the least number of goals allowed since the 2017 season, excluding any season altered in games played due to COVID-19. Madison Hranicka set the single-season program record in 2023 with 50 caused turnovers. The Blue Hens set a single-game program record with 26 caused turnovers and also tied their program record in ground balls with 33 against Lafayette in 2024.
At the draw, Delaware has been equally successful under Nakrasius. In her first season in 2023, the Blue Hens shattered the program record for draw controls in a single season with 240, besting their 2008 mark of 218 and leading the CAA with 15.00 draw controls per game. Delaware set a new program record with 26 draw controls in a single game against ODU, and Danielle Livornese broke the program's career record in 2024 with 223 draw controls.
Nakrasius coached Hranicka to back-to-back CAA Defensive Player of the Year selections in 2023 and 2024, while three defenders have earned all-conference recognition. On the national level, Hranicka earned All-America honors in 2024 and all-region recognition in both 2023 and 2024. Erin Gormley was an all-region selection in 2025.
"I'm incredibly honored and grateful for this new role," said Nakrasius. "I want to thank Jordan Skolnick, Amy Altig, & Jake Schrum for this wonderful opportunity. This is a reflection of the amazing team and coaching staff I'm fortunate to be part of every day. I'm excited to continue to grow in this role and help the Hens reach new heights!"
Prior to her arrival at UD, Nakrasius was on staff at Quinnipiac as an assistant coach in 2022. During her season with the Bobcats, the defense allowed a league-low 197 goals and ranked second in the MAAC with 8.88 caused turnovers per game.
Nakrasius competed at Temple from 2016-21, where she was a four-year captain for the Owls. She broke the career draw control record with a total of 236 and ranked seventh in program history with 144 ground balls. A five-year starter at Temple, she played four years as a defender before transitioning to midfield/attack for her fifth year.
She was a two-time all-conference selection, earning All-AAC First Team honors in 2019 and second team recognition in 2021. Nakrasius was a four-time winner of the Devon Marie Lam "T" Means More Award which is given to the person who most exemplifies Temple Lacrosse through selflessness, dedication & desire for team success (2017-20). She was also a winner of the Enterprise Spirit & Sportsmanship Award (2017) & Parliament Award (2019) for the student-athlete who has demonstrated a devotion to the essence of sport through their acts of sportsmanship.
Nakrasius earned both her bachelor's (2020) and master's (2021) degrees from Temple University.
