RICHMOND, Va. - Lily Rogers and Kirah Johnson of University of Delaware's volleyball program each received CAA weekly honors from the conference after helping Delaware to a 2-0 weekend over Stony Brook. Rogers was named Offensive Player of the Week, while Johnson was named Co-Defensive Player of the Week.
Rogers continued her stellar play this season, as she led the conference in assists per set at 11.14 with 78 in seven sets played. She also had three aces and three kills. Rogers had 40 assists on Saturday in four sets and 38 in three sets on Sunday. During the second set on Sunday, she had a season-best in a set 17 assists. This is Rogers second CAA Player of the Week honor this season, as she also earned the honor as a co-recipient on Oct. 21. Rogers is the only setter in the CAA to earn Offensive Player of the Week this season and is the first setter to earn the honor twice in a season since Aubrey Kirven of Towson in 2011. Rogers is also the first UD player with multiple CAA Offensive Player of the Week honors in a season since Lani Mason in 2022.
Johnson earned Defensive Player of the Week for the second consecutive week, as she shares the distinction this week with Leonor Polezzi of N.C. A&T. Johnson's defensive efforts helped hold the Seawolves to a hitting percentage of .175 in the two games, as she had 11 blocks in seven sets played. Johnson had eight blocks on Saturday, including becoming the sixth Blue Hen to ever reach 400 career blocks. She is the first Delaware player to earn two CAA Defensive Player of the Week honors in one season since Taylor Hollingsworth in 2016, and the first to earn it in back-to-back weeks since Ariel Shonk in 2013.Â
This season, Rogers is leading the CAA and is 30th nationally in assists per set at 10.39, with the next closest in the conference sitting at 9.95, despite being UD's regular starting setter for the first time in her career. She has been on fire as of late, averaging 11.08 assists per set over UD's last 10 matches. She reached 1,000 career assists on Sept. 15, and is already at 831 for this season. Johnson is tied for third in the CAA with 1.16 blocks per set, which also puts her in the top 100 nationally. She has had at least three total blocks in six straight matches, and has seven matches this season with at least five total blocks. She joined Karen Kunselman (591), Paige Erickson (464), Emily Rome (456), Jennifer Wanner (417), and Jerelyn Lawson (416) as the only UD players with at least 400 career blocks.Â
This is the first time Delaware earned two CAA Weekly honors in a single week since the Spring 2021 season on Feb. 15, when Michaela Putnicki was named Offensive Player of the Week and Savannah Seemans was Rookie of the Week. The Blue Hens currently are tied with Towson for the CAA's longest active win streak at six, and sit tied atop the conference standings with the Tigers, Charleston, and Hofstra at 11-3. A road sweep of Hofstra two weekends ago helped flip the script on Delaware's season, as the Blue Hens have already clinched a CAA Tournament berth and are vying for its first regular season title since 2011.Â
Delaware hits the road for the final time during the regular season this weekend when it plays Hampton. The Blue Hens return home to finish out the regular season against Elon on Nov. 15 and 16. UD will look to defend its CAA Tournament Championship title on Nov. 21 in Towson, Md.Â
