Men’s Basketball Takes Misericordia to School on Education Day, 92-75

NEWARK, Del. – The University of Delaware men's basketball team left the Education Day matinee matchup with Misericordia victorious, winning 92-75 at the Bob Carpenter Center. The Blue Hens jump up to 7-4, while the Cougars fall to 6-3.

The Blue Hens will travel to Jersey City, N.J. to take on Saint Peter's on Friday. Tip-off from Yanitelli Recreational Life Center is scheduled for 7 p.m. on ESPN+.

HENS HIGHLIGHTS
- Delaware has led by double-digits at halftime in two-consecutive games, leading Chestnut Hill and Misericordia by 14 and 13, respectively.
- Erik Timko's five-straight made threes to start the game are the most for a Hen since Kobe Jerome went 6-of-6 against Goldey-Beacom last year. His 29 points are the most in his Delaware career to go along with season-highs in field goals (8) and threes (6).
- Niels Lane tallied 12 points to go along with a career-best nine assists.
- Joining Timko and Lane in double figures were John Camden (14) and Cavan Reilly (11).
- Macon Emory set a career mark with three blocks. He's done so in back-to-back games.
- Timko got the crowd into it early, knocking down a three on the first attempt of the game. A pair of slam dunks by Lane took the game into its first media timeout with the Hens leading 11-3. A 9-0 run over a 2:45 stretch for the Cougars led to their first lead of the game. Timko knocked down another three to stop the bleeding, putting the Blue & Gold back in front. UD took a 16-15 advantage into the under-12 stoppage. An 11-0 Blue Hens' run over 1:38 led to a Misericordia timeout with the home squad up by five. The Blue & Gold went on an 8-0 run over in 1:34 that coincided with a 2:06 scoreless drought for the Cougars heading into the final media timeout of the half. Using a 14-3 run over the last 4:48 of the first half, the Hens took a 46-33 lead into the locker room.
- Misericordia went on a 7-0 run in just 18 seconds that led to a timeout from Martin Ingelsby with the Hens still leading by double-digits. UD took a 54-44 lead into the inaugural media stoppage of the second half. The Cougars continued to score early in the second half, tying the game at 56 on the heels of an 8-0 run over 1:35. At the 12-minute media timeout, the Hens held a two-point lead. Back-to-back and-one opportunities for UD bumped its lead up to 64-56. Holding Misericordia scoreless over 2:24, the Blue & Gold took an 83-68 lead into the final media timeout. The Hens finished the game with a 9-7 stretch, taking the game 92-75.

- Brandon Baffone scored his first career points.
